awesome
from pawleys island, sc,  Nov 12, 2009

My husband put this together in less than 30 minutes. We had to trim down one of the supports, but that only took a few minutes...I can't wait to put it to use in the early spring-it will sure help my knees!

Don't buy this bench
 from VA,  Mar 28, 2009

Unless you have the tools to re-drill holes and level up this bench, don't buy it. All the holes were improperly lined up and made assembly impossible. We had to redrill in order for the bench to be useable at all. Really disappointed.

LOVES IT
from Middletown, CT,  Dec 17, 2011

I bought the bench for my wife for her birthday and she absolutely loves it. She is an avid gardener and has wanted a potting bench forever. I put it together easily and set it up for her and it has become a central part of one of her gardens. It's a wonderful addition to the landscaping and she now has a place for all her potting supplies.

Okay for the price
 from Maryland,  Apr 14, 2011

I bought this to put outside and use as an actual potting bench so it will meet my needs. Had I gotten it to use for entertaining like some of the others who reviewed this, I'd be sending it back. The wood was splitting in several places where it was screwed together. There were also several "chuncks" of wood missing and lots of dents. It's cedar which is a soft wood so I'm not really surprised. Also, if you want the wood smooth be prepared to spend some time sanding as it was very rough cut. None the less, I used some gorilla glue to secure the damaged parts, put a coat of deck stain on it, and it will be be fine for my purpose. I think I got what I paid for.

  • Did the color match the color displayed onsite? N/A
  • How is the quality of the product? Not as nice as I expected.
  • Did the description onsite accurately describe the product? The description is accurate it's just not that nice.

Burn your money instead
from Long Island, NY,  Apr 6, 2011

Product pieces came broken; split wood. The predrilled areas were placed incorrectly for assembly. Once together, I had to add additional supports to the back of the top shelf. I cannot believe that there was any quality control for this product on Overstock's side. If there was, then O is blatantly taking money for inferior products. If I hadn't already thrown out the packing box, I would have sent it back. I will not purchase from Overstock again due to the quality of this product. I had been a long and loyal customer.

  • Did the color match the color displayed onsite? Yes
  • How is the quality of the product? Horrible quality.
  • Did the description onsite accurately describe the product? No. The online description was for a functioning piece.

Potting Bench
from Los Angeles, CA,  Mar 27, 2011

I purchased this bench because of the wood, since it would be out in my yard with the elements. It was simple for my husband to put together. The last two small pieces of wood were missing drill holes. But since my husband had it 90% built, it was easy to see where a couple of holes needed to be drilled before completing the project. It is sturdy, simple, and just what I needed. Most other cedar potting benches are much more expensive. So far, so good!

Ready for Spring
from Brea. CA,  Mar 17, 2011

I was expecting a yellow potting bench but was pleased to see it's natural color. One of the boards had come off its glued position but a little glue and a few taps with the mallet got it back in place. The assembly was easy and I am very pleased with my new bench which I've got lined with pots already.

Potting Bench
from Cincinnati, OH,  Mar 4, 2011

We purchased this item to organize our grilling area. The bottom shelf provides plenty of space for charcoal and a charcoal starter, while the middle shelf is the perfect height for preparing food. We are planning to use the top shelf for fresh herbs and we've attached hooks to the sides for grill accessories. This is a beautiful piece for a reasonable price and we found it pretty simple to assemble. We haven't decided if we will stain the piece or leave as is. We look forward to using it for years to come!

Good looking wood
from Saddlebrooke, AZ,  Sep 29, 2010

Very easy on the eye. Ideal for our use as a small patio wine bar and an outside serving area. Very sturdy and gives opportunity to add other items and storage baskets. Priced well and took ten minutes to put together

just right
from san francisco,  Sep 9, 2010

After moving from a house to a condo and not wanting to give up my gardening I've struggled with storage and working areas. This potting bench is just right. The bench has replaced the messy work area that I'd been working in. Thanks

Great Potting Bench
from Cincinnati, Ohio,  Aug 3, 2010

This potting bench is just like it was advertised. It was easy to put together--even for an amateur with minimal tool skills. It's just the right size; has plenty of work space and storage; and is very study. A little pricey, but I'm sure it will last a long time.

Great multipurpose table
from Lake Arrowhead, CA,  Jul 3, 2010

Nice quality white cedar potting table. I stained it with a custom blend of a weathered red/grey oil based stain as we are in snow country and it will be out in the weather. This will primarily be used as a service piece for food and the depth of the shelves gives me enough room for my oversized dinner plates and wine glasses across the top. It was very easy to assemble and required little sanding. If you were using it as a potting table you wouldn't need to sand it at all. Took me about 45 minutes to assemble it. Didn't even need to ask the husband for help!!!

Great Potting Bench
from Morristown NJ,  Jul 2, 2010

The potting bench fit perfectly in a section of my back yard. Not only is it practical but adds interest to the garden. I use it for potting plants, storage and to hold drinks during a party. It was quick and easy to assemble.

Nice piece
 from Ohio,  Mar 25, 2010

I received and assembled this the same day. It is a well constructed piece, sturdy and classic in its design. I did secure a small 1" x 6" metal plate across the underside of the 2" x 4"s that make up the top surface to smooth out the top surface. As it is natural wood, one of the boards was a bit warped. By placing the plate on the underside with short wood screws and drawing the 2" x4"s down, I was able to correct the warp. A quick, easy and inexpensive fix had the potting stand looking top-notch!

cedar gardening potting bench
from Northwest NJ,  Mar 8, 2010

I began to assemble the bench, and immediately had difficulty because the drilled bolt holes were too tight. Then as I further used my rubber mallet to force the bolts into the appropriate holes, the pre-installed slats all came unglued and unnailed from the preassembled tabletops. This because the glue used was not of good quality and the nails used to secure the slats into place were not long enough to go into the underlying beam. Thankfully my hubby has far more carpenter skills than I, and he completely rebuilt all of the "preassembled" items. It looks great now, but did not save me any time and/or effort, and has not saved me money due to the extra time I had to invest in the rebuild.

Compact and very nice!
from Los Angeles,  Feb 16, 2010

We took the long way around with the construction of this potting bench... since it would need to endure the elements we wanted it to last so before assembling it, we (well, my boyfriend to be honest!) gave it two coats of satin sealant which gave the wood a beautiful rich color. Once it had fully dried the assembly took about an hour and the only trouble we had was the holes were tight; the ones for the dowels and the bolts so we had to take a round file and shave the holes out a bit but it wasn't a big deal. The finished product is so pretty and works great for organizing all our critter foods; we feed many squirrels and birds and must keep the food in little metal cans that are actually chained with a lock, since the squirrels are so persistent! We actually have used it already for some light potting and soon we'll try our luck with spring seeds/bulbs. We have recently had a lot of rain and it was cool to see how beautifully the seal protected the wood, the rainwater just beaded up and evaporated. I'm glad we chose to seal it first, and would really recommend this step for the life expectancy of the bench. Overall it is sturdy and really nice and considering how expensive potting benches can be, I think this is a terrific bargain for such a nice piece.

Great Potting Bench
from Canisteo, NY,  Jan 3, 2010

I was impressed. Easy to assemble. It took about 20 minutes between two people, but would have been easily assembled by one person.I've been looking for the right potting bench for two years. Finally I saw this one and for the price, jumped on it.When it arrived, we put it together fast and it is impressive. Very sturdy, made out of cedar. It is perfect for storing potting soil underneath and working on plants. Now, we're ready for the spring... I just hope it gets here soon :)

Great sturdy potting bench
from Julian, CA,  Oct 28, 2009

Not being too handy as a rule, I put this thing together in less than an hour. It was real easy with clear instructions and very sturdy screws, nuts and bolts. I am displaying colorful glass bottles of all shapes at the moment. It adds a fun splash of happy colors to an otherwise blah corner.I love it!!!!Thanks O!!
