  • Product looks great, but the quailty is not what I

If you are looking for a product that looks great and not overly concerned about the quailty and durability of the product, then this item is for you. Unfortunately, while screwing the parts together the wood began splitting, which made me relaize that the product of the wood is not that good. The unit does look good, but not high quailty. I guess one gets what they pay for.

  • Looks great!

I am not mechanically inclined at all, so I was almost frightened off by many of the reviews that focused on the difficulty of assembly. Seems the company has improved quality control. Directions were clear, parts were labelled correctly. I took my time (several hours) and it turned out great. That said, my error at one point was almost a disaster when I punched a screw through the wood where I shouldn't have -- however a creative recovery made it look even better. The error was mine. The last couple of screws were hard to put in without a drill, but I nevertheless managed it with the help of a hammer. Other than that, the screwdriver was the only tool necessary besides the provided Allen wench. It looks great; overall quality is excellent. Seems more expensive than it is. Very heavy though. You'll need two people to help carry it into the house when it's delivered. Once you start unpacking piece by piece, the weight it not an issue. All in all great value; looks just right.

  • Real Flame Fresno Gel Fireplace

I am very grateful for a patient and mechanically-inclined husband. The fireplace is beautiful and a focal point to the living room. The quality is above average and worth the price. Although you can burn up to 3 cans of gel at a time, we have found just one can provides a lovely atmosphere. Unfortunately, all the previous reviews describing the difficult assembly are correct. The pieces were mislabeled. The connecting pieces provided are different that those described in the instructions. The supplemental instructions printed off the website were in French. I would recommend this fireplace but only if you have a friend who is a carpenter or engineer.

    • How did the color on site compare with the actual product? Fireplace looks very much like photo
    • Please tell us about the quality of the product. Above average quality, very heavy.

  • Is it worth the trouble? Yes and No...

I read the other reviews before I bought this - 1st off, I bought the wrong one. I wanted the electric fireplace and this one uses gel with real flames. So I had to buy an additional electric insert and now have both. That aside, the thing was horrible to put together. The pieces were not marked correctly, nor are they level where they should be, nor do they fit together correctly (I'm speaking here of the boards underneath and behind the firebox). Nothing is predrilled and one must use a drill or crack the wood. The screws are difficult to put in since there's not room for a screwdriver, nevertheless a drill. Once it is together, I realized that NONE of my electronics fit in the shelves. I had to remove the backs (which took some work since they are not put on last and jimmy-rig putting them back after I installed the electronics from the back. There is no room on the tops for the electronics so they MUST go in the shelves. This took much time and the finished product is not what I would wish from the back, but looks perfect from the front. It took me two days to put together. Two days. For a carpenter. I would have had an easier time building it from scratch. Also make sure you have Jacobean stain nearby or a stain pen since you will need to touch up areas that were not stained that should have been. Good luck!

    • Please tell us about the quality of the product. The wood is harder than pine, the piece is stable once together and Very Heavy.
    • How accurate was the on site description of the product? It was pretty accurate - except in the ease of assembly

  • You get what you pay for

My experience with this product pretty much mirrored that of the review submitted by Macholis. It's a very nice looking piece of furniture and I love having real flames versus the look you get from an electric fireplace. My cat was enamored by them! My assembly instructions were also in French! While I took some French in High School many moons ago, I could only read a handful of words. I went to RealFlame's website and they had assembly instructions for the same unit with the same product number, but the parts were different so they weren't of any help. I assembled it myself in two separate evenings. Some of the items were labeled wrong and after three attempts at trying to install them according to the pictures in the instructions and drilling un-nesscessary holes, I figured out it the instructions were bad and eventually got it assembled correctly. Some of the wood split when putting in screws but it's not visible so it doesn't bother me. It's not bad for the money and I must agree, it looks fabulous.

  • Looks Great - Feels Cheap

I was excited when I purchased my Fresno fireplace! For the looks and price it seemed right up my alley. First, its a sharp looking piece! Once assembled it looks like a very expensive fireplace stand. However putting it together was a bear! I'll tell you, even as an engineer I had a bit of trouble putting it together. So if you decide to purchase this, be warned that this will take you a few hours to assemble by yourself. Mnfg Ooopsies: 1. The instructions were in French! 2. You will need a drill as you can't put it together with hand screwdriver (unless you're a gorilla). 3. Some of the pieces were labeled wrong. 4. The labels are a real pain to get off. 5. The wood splits in certain locations while you assemble. Be gentle and have carpenters glue on hand. 6. Nothing aligns straight, assembly takes finesse. I had to assemble out of order to square things together. So again, the pros: it looks great when done! The cons: you want to constantly punch something out of frustration. Good luck :) *Would I recommend this? Yes but not for everyone unless they know how to put things together without much instruction and are "handy" with tricky assemblies.

    • How did the color on site compare with the actual product? Its very close
    • Please tell us about the quality of the product. The quality of the wood is bad. It splits in multiple places and some of the features were falling off (I had to re-glue them on). Also, the labeling was off and I had to figure out what parts belonged to their corresponding assemblies. The instructions were also in French (I can't read in French)!
    • How accurate was the on site description of the product? It was accurate with exception to the amount of assembly required
