I build / repair / maintain fireplaces for a living. I bought this to build a prototype surround to sell retail.
I recently built a fireplace for a bar. They wanted gas, when I explained why it was a bad idea and that electric doesn't look bad anymore, they said ok, but make sure it's top notch. So I bought a top notch electric fireplace costing 900.00.
IT WAS HALF AS GOOD AS THIS ONE!
This one is crazy good looking! the controls have more features than models that cost 3x as much. I'm not even joking!
I thought I was using the one I bought for a prototype then I was going to buy higher end ones. NOPE! I'm sticking with this.
Have a Real Flame fireplace mantel and my old electric firebox bit the dust. Received this very quickly, no assembly, slid it into place and plugged it in. Love the flame effect, much brighter than my old one with the LEDs. Also love that the box itself can light up. Very quit too. My old one sounded like a lawn mower! :) Very happy with this.
Have an Ashley Mahogany Gel sterno Fireplace.

If the bulbs cannot be replaced, how long do they last? Do you just throw it away when they burn out? Dumb design?clairec on Nov 2, 2014Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
Hello clairec, the LED bulbs featured in this firebox are maintenance free and should not require replacing. The LED bulbs have an average life span of approximately 75,000 hours.
If you ran your fireplace continuously at its highest setting, they would last approximately 8.5 years. Thanks for shopping with us! L.B.overstockcustomercare2 on Nov 5, 2014
I have a wood cabinet with an inside opening dimension of 26 1/2 inch wide, 21 inch height, and plenty of room in depth. This cabinet sits on the floor and is part of a Travel trailer. Is this model firebox appropriate for me?genscrollart on Nov 1, 2014Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
Hello genscrollart, the heat will escape the unit through the vent on the top, so you'll want to be sure that there is enough space at the top of the cabinet. Thanks for shopping with us! A.S.overstockcustomercare2 on Nov 3, 2014
Where does the heat exit? Is the grill on the top just for venting of the unit? Is there heat output at the front of the unit, as in an actual fireplace?TO on Oct 29, 2014Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
Hello TO, there is a vent at the top of the product which outputs the heat. Thank you for shopping with us!overstockcustomercare1 on Nov 3, 2014
I have a non-operational firebox that was closed in. The opening for the firebox is 21 1/2W X 23H X 12D... it appears that the unit is tapered from front to back with the back of the unit appearing as if it is NOT the same width as the front at 23.65in...- I am wondering if I could fit this unit into my opening... and how much of the front would stick out from the firebox? Does anyone have the exact measurements for this unit? Or could you tell me how far out it would sit from the front of the firebox? Thanks very much!Doublebogey on Oct 26, 2014Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
Hello Doublebogey, this is tapered. The back is 18 inches wide. I think this would stick out of your fireplace about half way. Have a great day!overstockcustomercare1 on Oct 29, 2014
Can I put this into a built in entertainment wall unit ?RudiG on Oct 6, 2014Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
Hello RudiG, you'll need to ensure that the top and sides are open to allow the heat to escape. Thanks for shopping with us! A.S.overstockcustomercare2 on Oct 7, 2014
If you did insert into a wall, how much space or room would you need for the top opening vent?
Is the front covered or just a screen?klg1070 on Oct 2, 2014Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
Hello klg1070, this is not designed to be installed into a wall, it would pose a fire hazard as it heats up! You can place them on a flat surface but the sides and back need to be open so as to allow the heat to emanate from the unit. Some people put them inside of those pre fab fireboxes with 8-10 inches on the sides and back for venting. I have one of these and I have it installed on the lower shelf of my TV stand. It is beautiful. It sits on a wood surface about 4 inches off the carpet. I am going to put ceramic tile down as it gets warm. We do sell a wall mount. Please see, Item #: 15869871. These are a beautiful solution to a room without a fireplace. You will love it. Thank you for shopping with us. Rochelle Boverstockcustomercare2 on Oct 3, 2014

The dimensions given I assume are overall dimensions of the unit. I would like the dimensions of the firebox opening. Height and width and depth to back wall.hendy22 on Nov 17, 2013Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
Hello, hendy22. Unfortunately, we do not have those measurements available; we only have the total dimensions. Also, please note that this insert is made for existing Real Flame certified wooden mantels only.overstockcustomercare1 on Nov 26, 2013
I want to put this into my firebox for my outdated wood burning fire place. Do I need to leave the fire walls in and I do have a flume to the top of my roof for venting. Can you recommend and installer? Or can I do this myself? It has already turned cold here.deesosa1 on Oct 8, 2013Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
Hello deesosa1, The Real Flame Electric Firebox Fireplace must be used with Real Flame fireplace mantels only.
1400W, 4,780 BTU/hr heater
Complete with remote and hardware.
Programmable thermostat with display in Celsius or Fahrenheit.
Ultra bright LED technology with 5 brightness settings. With this you don't need a flume to the top of my roof for venting. Also you can do this yourself. Please feel free to contact us again with any further questions. Thank you for shopping with us!

It doesn't have to be used only with their mantels they have to say that legally. Yea you can stick it into your fireplace. No you don't have to keep your firewalls in. No you don't need to have a flue. (You'd do very well to stuff some insulation up there to be honest, then caulk a piece of metal on the top to seal it from rain or it may rust the electric one.) Your biggest problem will be the gap, for that your easiest fix will be get a roll of metal flashing material thick enough to cover the gap, paint it black, snip it to size, and just use caulk to "glue" it around the surround to hide the gap.fbipeeper on Oct 20, 2013

Does this have to be inserted into something or can I use as a free standing space heater?grande1 on Aug 22, 2013Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
Hello grande1, We apologize for the confusion. This is not free standing as in a space heater but is a fireplace insert to be used only with Real Flame Fireplace Mantels. Thank you for checking.overstockcustomercare1 on Aug 22, 2013
They have to say that legally but I have one sitting on a dresser. It's not UL listed that way but yes, it does just fine.fbipeeper on Oct 20, 2013
Hello customer1016, The outside of the unit is cool to the touch. The top lip, where the blower is, can become hot, but not burning hot. Thank you for your question.

Why does this item appear in a search for "timer" but NOT in a search for "fireplace"????!!!!suzyfromohio on Aug 15, 2013Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
Because it is only the firebox, it doesn't come with a frame.bivensk3604 on Sep 26, 2014
This need to get air from the top so you wouldn't be able to do that.
Thank you for shopping with us! overstockcustomercare1 on Jun 17, 2013
Yes you can you just have to make sure the top can get air. Make sure you get the right contractor. You'll violate the listing on the unit though so if something goes wrong the manufacture isn't liable. That being said I'd stick this in a wall no problem.fbipeeper on Oct 20, 2013
