  • Beautiful but odornment only due to defects

I ordered these purple chairs after searching for a long time for two purple chairs for a certain spot in my LR. The chairs won't be used a lot but they are not only for decoration. I do need them to function as reading-nook chairs and they do get used several times each week. They sat in the box for a few weeks because I was in the middle of repainting my LR. I checked the parts (the chairs did not come assembled and everything but the finish on the legs looked ok.) I figured the legs weren't that big of a deal and didn't both calling Overstock. Quite frankly, I didn't want to deal with returns. I finally got the room painted and excitedly got started on assembly. I can assemble just about anything. I have the tools and I have the ability and the skill-set. This was not a complicated assembly. Put the legs where they go and use the given hardware to screw the legs into place. The problem is that the hardware which is built in to the chair frame itself (kind of like cam-lock screws except the lock is in the hardware that is pre-drilled into the wood-intended to give a super tight grip to the screw so it doesn't loosen over time) is defective. When you tighten the screws at all-before they are even acceptably tight, the hardware inside the chair comes out because the tiny nails that are used to set the cams in place are not strong enough to keep them in place. That meant I had to remove all the hardware and go buy some tiny wood screws (4 per piece and there are 2 per leg so a total of 8 screws needed per leg). Each piece of hardware took me 10 minutes to fix and 5 minutes to remove and reinsert so each chair took me over an hour to assemble. So much for easy assembly. Also, a couple of the holes in the pre-drilled chairs weren't even aligned properly (not in the legs but where the chair bottom screws into the chair back) so this clearly affects how much weight the chair can take. I was able to "rig" one of the chairs so that while not tightened at all, the screw is at least "in there" so that I don't think it will fall with anyone unless they plop into it. The other chair was just completely misaligned and I just couldn't get the screws to go in. The bad thing is.. at least in legs I could see the hardware issue and was able to get to the cam part of the hardware that was defective in order to repair it. The same hardware is used in the chair where the chair bottom meets the chair back and because each screw didn't tight properly and is so loose, I know the same issue is going on with those pieces of hardware. But, that hardware is hidden by the fabric in the chair back. :/ So now I have to constantly ask my small kids to not "plop" down in the chair and I do not let guests sit on the chairs which is awkward. "See the pretty chairs? Good. Please don't sit in them because you can fall." The fabric is beautiful. A little brighter than pictured on screen-a true purple (like concord grape jam) but not a deal breaker. The fabric is not velvet but a microfiber that I do not think would pass much of a wear test. So, I have expensive decorative chairs that look great but aren't able to be used as they should be. I contacted Overstock a couple of months past the 30 day return period because I realized that I had paid a pretty penny for these two chairs for them to be so defective and unusable. I spoke with ****who issued me a partial refund. If I had talked with her anywhere close to the day I was going through the drama of assembling these I would have turned down her offer and just done the return since I still had the box then and I was so irritated. But since I waited so long and returning items (especially when I didn't keep the box) is a pain in the ****-I accepted her offer and appreciated her helpfulness. I guess time does soften the "blow". I appreciate Overstock's awesome customer service and of all the items we have purchased from Overstock through the years, this is the first time we have had a negative experience.

  • Very poor quatiy for the price.

The purple color is great, but the quality of material is very poor. Permanent creases in the purple velvet material. Short leg on one of the chairs. I would have returned both chairs but my husband disposed of the box they came in. Lesson learned! Definitely would not recommend this product to anyone. There is better to choose from.
