When I read the other reviews for this desk that said it was difficult to put together I didn't think very much of it. I usually enjoy projects like this and am fairly adept at interpreting vague instructions and sorting out a big pile of hardware.
The challenge with this desk is that not all of the predrilled holes are the same size, nor do they always line up correctly with the other pieces. This probably should have taken me two hours to put together, but it took about 8 over the course of two days. The most difficult part was getting the top of the desk flush with its base. It's still not quite right. Also, as other reviewers have mentioned, the holes for the drawer slides are not predrilled and while they are fairly easy to figure out, the wood split when I put the screws in. So, it's sturdy wood, but must be too dry or the screws are too big for the width. Just something to watch out for.
Overall it's a nice, heavy desk wish a large work surface and great drawer space, but if the manufacturer had done a better job with quality control of the pieces life would have been much easier. And the front of my keyboard drawer wouldn't be driving me crazy because it's slightly askew.
