This clock looks good, but has huge problems. First of all the clock came with the based busted in 3 different places, so rather than return the whole clock, I glued the base as needed. It's still very uneven and could never stand level, so I placed it in a corner on carpet. The base sides, top, bottom, and back along with the top sides are very thin stained particle wood...very bad. The actual face and top portion of the clock is pretty sturdy hardwood, but has a pretty cheesy tin numeric face. The pendulum and the weights are about as thin a tin as you can possibly get...will bend to the most subtle touch. The biggest problem with my clock, is that it can't keep time accurate within a half an hour in a 24-hr period. The chime was off from the hour being displayed day one, but I fixed that. It can't keep time worth crap. I've lowered the timing screw to the lowest possible setting on the bottom of the pendulum bob, but it's still keeps time at a run away pace. I wouldn't buy this clock no matter how cheap it is. You definitely get what you pay for. Keep searching everyone, this isn't the answer for anyone who wants a grandfather clock. Oh yeh, you cannot turn off the chime for night time. It chimes 24 hrs a day and only chimes. No Westminster chime. Poor excuse for a clock! I wish I had seen an honest review like this before I wasted my money.
