Delaroche may be best known today for his painting 'The Young Martyr' which hangs in Louvre, Paris. Depicting the death of a young Christian martyr in the 3rd century AD during the reign of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, this painting was completed a year before his death in 1856. Le Jeune Martyre has been called the 'Christian Ophelia' since it resembles Pre-Raphaelite artists' portrayals of Ophelia from Shakespeare's Hamlet. Artist grade canvas is spline-finished over solid wood stretcher bars and individually handcrafted and coated with multiple layers of a UV finish. Recreated in amazing detail and cleanly wrapped canvas with natural colored edges, this piece is ready to hang or frame. This item is part of the Artistic Home Series.
