Newport Country Style Home Office Black Desk

Desk does come in one, very heavy box. I had to open the box where it was delivered (in my garage) and pull out the pieces to bring them into the room where I wanted to put the desk. I read the reviews and knew there was a risk in finding a damaged keyboard pullout drawer when I opened the box. Since I wasn't going to use it as a computer desk anyway, I wasn't too concerned. Thus, I wasn't too surprised when I saw the cracked keyboard tray upon opening the box. Unfortunately, I also discovered a damaged drawer, where the faceplate was pulled away from the drawer sides, damaging the dovetails. Since this was going into a room I was refurbishing, I didn't open the box until after the 30 day return policy, so I'm stuck with a damaged desk. It was otherwise easy to put together, and could've been a handsome desk. There were a couple of spots that had some staining issues (I ordered the black finish), but could be passed off as a "distressed" look. So buyer beware... there's a good chance you'll be calling customer service if you order this desk.

I was looking at a lot of desks and settled on this one. The desk looked pretty darn good and compared to others in this price range I decidedto buy it. One thing the package is VERY VERY heavy. The desk comes in one package and it is mostly assembled. So I would imagine there is a very good chance it could get damaged in transit The entire desk top and drawers are assembled in the pacakge. Would be easy for the shipper to damage those, might be a reason some people report it being broken. That being said, it is easy to assemble since it is mostly already done. There is a fair amount of solid wood which was nice to see. The color is very good though a couple of the spots rarely seen did not have the greatest staining. Seems a very solid desk.

It looks nice and the reviews were ok, so I purchased 2. Both can damaged and seemed to be made of poor materials. I would not advise the purchase of this product.

I had read all the other reviews before buying this desk and my experience was just about what I expected it to be. The desk arrived in a timely manner, assembly was fairly simple but both the keyboard drawer and one of the drawers were damaged. While Overstock's customer service was prompt in responding to my emails, I was a little annoyed with the overall inconvenience of not being able to fully assemble the desk for a few weeks. The desk also had some minor scratches upon arrival but nothing major.
