I have wanted one of these for a long time but purchased two (separate occasions) attempting to find one that fit. My mixer was probably 20 years old and I don't think they make one to fit my model, or if they do, you can't seem to figure out which one that would be. I purchased a new mixer which is a 5-quart lift bowl model and bought this one since it said it was for ALL 5-quart lift bowl models. But it didn't fit. Mine is a 5 quart PLUS. That makes a difference. I took one last chance and bought one for what I thought was that model and it did fit. It works well. I do love it and am glad I have it. It is plastic, not metal, so I take care not to overtax it, as some reviewers have said it snapped. It does seem to reach the sides of the bowl and really does cut way down on having to turn off the machine to scrape the sides. The PLUS model of mixer seems to need this more than my old unit did (which is actually still running like a champ). Check your model numbers before buying this. I sent an e-mail to the company who makes these to see which one I should buy but I never got a reply. Overstock did take the item that did't fit back and they even paid for the shipping, which I thought they should since the item is advertised as fitting ALL 5-quart lift-bowl mixers (Kitchenaide, of course). All in all, I am really glad I found the right one and took another chance. It is worth it. I would give it five stars except that it is plastic. Even then, it might be worth five stars. At least I know which one to buy again, if this one breaks. And the time it saves is worth the price over and over again.
