This metal finish electric space heater is actually more stylish than one might imagine at first. The heater features a thermostat and using it can reduce overall heating costs. Heats up to 800 square feet, is easy to use, and has no fumes....more
I originally purchased one of these 3 years ago to heat a newly finished basement. It worked great down there, but I have really learned to appreciate it this winter when we moved into a new house with all electric heat. I was not happy at all with the electric bill, and we still had some rooms that were much colder than others, even with the heat up. I wasn't sure if I wanted to use our Solar Comfort, fearing that it would just make the electric bill higher. After dealing with the coolness, I decided to try it in the main cold room. What a difference it made, not only to the cold room but the whole house. It made that room comfortable to use, the heat spread to other rooms plus eliminated the cool air that made the whole house cold. And it helped our primary heat source to turn on less, because we are now using less electricity with the added benefit of actually being warm! I originally researched this when looking for an Edenpure, which was all that was advertised then. I saw some websites that compared the Solar Comfort to the Edenpure, and it seemed to be better built. The main benefit I know is the heat exchanger is higher quality and the lightbulbs making the heat are screwed in, as opposed to replacing the Edenpure bulbs, which you have to take to the repair shop to replace. I have not had to replace these yet, but I know in each, the bulbs eventually need to be replaced. I have had no issues with quality at all; it is still going strong. I would recommend this to anyone to reduce either electric/oil/gas heating costs. I have two relatives that want me to find one of these for them, which is why I am looking online for it again and figured I would tell other people about my good experience with this.
I don't know what impact it will have on my electric bill - but it is a relatively nice looking unit that does not seem to put out much heat. In comparison to a Kerosine Heater, it is a whimp. However it is ok to supplement an area already heated by another system where you want additional warmth. It is much more expensive than other products on the market. Only worth about 1/2 of what it cost me.
I will start by saying, this is a good heater and by far the best heater I have used. The reason I can only give it a good rating instead of an excellent rating is because it is made in 'Nam, and not in the USA. I was fooled into thinking this was made in the USA by a blatant lie on the website where it states: "The Solar Comfort Zone Furnace is manufactured and distributed by Sun Cloud in Lenexa, Kansas." So besides that, it is a good heater, but I can never give something an excellent rating for such a bold face lie. I made my decision to buy this heater really because of only 2 things, 1. Made in USA and 2. The replaceable heat lamps. So one out of two, isn't bad I guess. After doing extensive research, I found that is the only infrared heater that uses easily replaceable screw in heat lamps, most other heaters use quart tubes and cannot be replaced easily, they are hard wired into the machine, a service technician must be called out to replace the tubes or risk voiding your warranty. My house is just over a thousand square feet and heats the entire house without any problems. The build quality is actually pretty good, I purchased the all metal heater without the wood cabinet, it's a few dollar cheaper than with the wood cabinet. One more thing, this is the original infrared heater developed in 1971 by John Paul Jones, the patent expired a few years ago, which is the reason the market is now flooded with a bunch of knock off infrared heaters. I hope this review helps someone make a informed decision when purchasing an infrared heater.
when the heating system went out in the rear of my house ,I needed a quick cost effective 110 unit . I purchased this heater and was surprised when it showed up with a oak cover box . This heater is quiet and shuts its self off when up to temp.
