I originally purchased one of these 3 years ago to heat a newly finished basement. It worked great down there, but I have really learned to appreciate it this winter when we moved into a new house with all electric heat. I was not happy at all with the electric bill, and we still had some rooms that were much colder than others, even with the heat up. I wasn't sure if I wanted to use our Solar Comfort, fearing that it would just make the electric bill higher. After dealing with the coolness, I decided to try it in the main cold room. What a difference it made, not only to the cold room but the whole house. It made that room comfortable to use, the heat spread to other rooms plus eliminated the cool air that made the whole house cold. And it helped our primary heat source to turn on less, because we are now using less electricity with the added benefit of actually being warm! I originally researched this when looking for an Edenpure, which was all that was advertised then. I saw some websites that compared the Solar Comfort to the Edenpure, and it seemed to be better built. The main benefit I know is the heat exchanger is higher quality and the lightbulbs making the heat are screwed in, as opposed to replacing the Edenpure bulbs, which you have to take to the repair shop to replace. I have not had to replace these yet, but I know in each, the bulbs eventually need to be replaced. I have had no issues with quality at all; it is still going strong. I would recommend this to anyone to reduce either electric/oil/gas heating costs. I have two relatives that want me to find one of these for them, which is why I am looking online for it again and figured I would tell other people about my good experience with this.
I don't know what impact it will have on my electric bill - but it is a relatively nice looking unit that does not seem to put out much heat. In comparison to a Kerosine Heater, it is a whimp. However it is ok to supplement an area already heated by another system where you want additional warmth. It is much more expensive than other products on the market. Only worth about 1/2 of what it cost me.
THE HEATER HAS MADE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN THE TEMPERATURE OF THE HOUSE DURING THIS VERY COLD WINTER
when the heating system went out in the rear of my house ,I needed a quick cost effective 110 unit . I purchased this heater and was surprised when it showed up with a oak cover box . This heater is quiet and shuts its self off when up to temp.
