I love my new bed. I had to write this review b/c its the reviews that convinced me to make this purchase. My last bed lasted 10 years & im certain this will endure as long if not longer. It adds a dramatic flair to any room & is so strong & sturdy. i weigh almost 300 lbs alone & the bed didnt budge 1 bit once we 'christened' it. Order it & enjoy!!

My fiance and I are very picky, we went back and forth on a few styles of beds for a long time. We wanted romantic, yet modern and clean- lined. Achieving this with a canopy bed can be tricky. This bed was a perfect meeting of both desires. You can dress this bed up or down. The only downside (my fiance is currently overseas) is that contrary to the other reviews, I found building the bed a bit tedious. Using the included 4 mm hex wrench for tightening the screws was hard on my fingers. I had used an allen wrench before, but not the little hex wrench. I admit, it is a very clever way of screwing in a straight screw from an angle, but the edges definitely left my fingers a little irritated. Also, I wish the description could include the information that a rubber mallet is needed so I could have bought it prior to delivery and not had to run to the hardware store before I could begin the build process (because I was so excited to see my new bed finished!) In the end, however, it was worth it and I managed to build and assemble all the pieces myself. Not to mention, it looks expensive, but has an awesome price. The end result is a dream, I love sleeping in this bed and it makes me feel like a princess/ duchess/ queen while still having the style of the modern world :)

How accurate was the on site description of the product? Very accurate, surprised there aren't already more reviews on this one.
Where do I start?! Well, my husband and I searched far and wide for a black canopy bed to go along with my black vanity mirror. We came across many and they were either too extravagant, too old school, too expensive or claimed to be black and were actually a dark brown wood.
Then I came across the canopy in Crate and Barrel, I looked at that bed for months before I came across this one in Overstock. I liked the one in Crate but it was a bit on the pricey side. I read these reviews and again, like I said this picture does the bed absolutely NO justice!
It is so sexy, elegant, sleek and sturdy!
This bed took me and my husband three hours to build . The only extra tool that we needed was a hammer.
I do recommend that if you have wood or tile floors you lay a sheet on the floor so as not to scratch the bed. We didn't do this and now we have a small scratch on the head board, easy fixing though, all we'll need is a little black wood paint. Hey, for the price! You can't beat it!
As for the bed not having enough storage space on the bottom because of how low it is to the ground, we fixed that by buying black bed risers from home depot. It raised it really beautifully and did not take away the look of the bed. As a matter of fact it blends in quite nicely, and if you ask me a higher bed gives the room more elegance! =)
Well, that's it. I am now off to go enjoy my bed. If you would like to see pictures of our room visit me on Facebook. Look for Xabelina Vargas.
Happy slumber all!
How did the color on site compare with the actual product? The color is exact. I would recommend overstock taking a closer picture of the bed so that the consumer can actually see the beauty of the black finish.
Please tell us about the quality of the product. It's made out of solid wood. So the quality is right on! Not a flimsy bed at all! Very sturdy!
How accurate was the on site description of the product? The description was very accurate.
I love this bed! I have wanted a canopy bed my whole life, and when i was in a position to buy one, I searched and searched and searched local furniture stores...i found one that was almost $$$$, but that was all. So I started looking online, and found this one. The price was so affordable for this type of bed, so I ordered it. In between hitting the "order button" and receiving it, i went thru various stages of buyers remorse..."omg, i should never have done that!" "this is never going to work- it will be a piece of junk!" "if its no good, i will send it back." I do have to say that the shipping was a bit awkward, with 2 of the 3 boxes arriving on time and one taking an additional week to arrive. But when the boxes all came, i sat down to put it together. My daughter helped me and in 2 hours we had it put together. Yes, the hex screws are a pain, but do anchor things very securely. I was stunned at the fact that every piece is solid wood- no laminate, no particle board, all solid wood! And has a beautiful finish! You really do need 2 people to put this together and ideally should have an additional 4mm allen wrench, so you can both screw hex screws in at the same time. Every morning when I look at this bed, i am in awe that I have it, that I bought it and it was awesome! There are not very many things in life that are what they say they are, when you buy them- this bed is one of them! I LOVE it! Buy it without reservation! you will love it too :)

The reviews of this bed are what really sold us, and we have to concur; this is a great high quality bed for an even better price! We didn't have any problems putting it together. My husband and I did it in a couple of hours. The bed is solid wood and has a simple sleek look. We bought it because it had a modern element that we could not find in many other canopy beds and of course it's price! We found similar beds at places like Crate and Barrel or Pottery Barn for more than twice as much. We are very pleased with this purchase and are happy to have found a bed that will last many years to come.

How accurate was the on site description of the product? could have given a slightly better description, the reviews are what sold the bed for us
A great experience the moment we opened the box. All the pieces were stacked in perfect order and in accordance to the enclosed instructions which offered detailed steps: Grouping pieces and Assembling. No missing hardware. In fact, extra parts were included. I strongly suggest investing in a rubber mallet (hammer), if you don't own one, as it was a huge part of getting the job done correctly without damaging the dowels. Also, BUY glue! I used E6000® Craft Adhesive, 2 oz. The glue included in box will not last. I'm a DIY single mom, with a seemingly lackadaisical 18yrs old daughter; therefore, at first, the size of the bed was a bit overwhelming. However, the easy to understand instructions encouraged my daughter to lay out the bed frame in the order as labeled (A,B,C...). It took a total of 4 hours to erect the bed. My daughter read the instructions and I did the most of the labor. The areas that slowed us down was when we used the hand tool (included with hardware) to tighten the bolts; not very efficient or manageable. I had a special tool that helped rotate (although still awkward). In tight or hard to reach positions, it was useful that I'm left handed and my daughter's right handed. Finally, lifting the headboard and footboard and attaching the side rails was easier then expected, if planned ahead. The bed is sturdy and no fear of coming unhinged. Rock soild. I wish I could attach a photo of the bed because it's beyond our expectations! The bed frame is low and the headboard is tall which may give the appearance of oversize if paired with a thin mattress set (personal opinion). We stacked two box-springs and pillow mattress with plenty of headboard exposed; it looks awesome! If I could put the bed in my living room and show it off, I would. <3
If you've been in the market for a canopy you know there is a wide range of prices. And seeing this bed for only *** (with a coupon code), you might be a little nervous that it's a piece of junk. Definitely not the case. I have looked at the one at **** (shipping, tax, and install not included), and I think this one actually looks better in person. The *** one has a bit more of a rustic look, this one is super chic. If has just the right glass finish. Was delivered with no scratches. Ok I am 1 small girl and live in a town home and this took me 8 hours to break down my old bed and bring up each peice of this new bed up and down two flights of stairs one by one. So all-in-all it wasn't THAT bad. And the fact that I was able to put it together myself was a nice little accomplishment :-) However, if you are lucky enough to have help with it, two men could probably bang this out in 2 hours easily. My old bed didn't need a box spring and this one you definitely do so I wasn't planning on spending the extra couple hundred dollars, but still so worth it. I was eying this bed for months and I can't stop looking at it. I sent pics to a bunch of my friends and they are in love too. I have a super small room and my biggest concern was that it would overtake my room, but is just so beautiful, it totally works in there. Bottom line, look no further for you canopy. This one is great. Looks better in person and you can really change the look of your room with this. So happy with the purchase my only regret is that I didn't get it sooner! Oh also, I ordered it on a Sunday and was on my door by Wednesday. I bought the canopy drapes here in white for the bed too, but not sure how they will end up looking.
I've had the bed assembled for a week now. It's beautiful and looks incredible with the other black furniture I purchased elsewhere. It is BLACK, not espresso. The only frustrating thing about the bed was the assembly. It took 2 adults the better part of 4 hours to assemble from start to finish. Some of the holes are difficult to reach, and the tool they gave to help with this was worn to a nub by the time we got to the last few screws. We did not use the enclosed glue since I might want to move it out of the room some day. It seems solid without it. I am very happy with the purchase so far.
We've only had this bed for about 2 weeks, but I can't imagine my life without it. It's soooooo beautiful and I feel super swanky sleeping in it. Putting it together was a pain, but for the cost, it was well worth it. BE CAREFUL when using the glue for the wood pegs -- it can leak out onto the exterior of the frame if you use too much as the liquid glue is very thin. I ended up using clear-drying wood glue after the first mishap.
I was looking for a bed with a very deep, dark brown color, like the Minwax Ebony stain I used for my baseboards. Although Overstock and other reviewers describe it as black, I beg to differ. So I'm glad I took the chance that it was actually a dark brown and not black, as it didn't look black to me in the pictures in comparison to other beds that were listed as black in color. Anyway, it turned out to be a perfect match to the ebony stain, and it's a solid, beautiful piece of furniture at a great value as everyone else describes it. Didn't use the glue as it's really not needed, and yes laying on the floor to tighten the screws with an allen wrench was slightly irritating, but overall very easy to assemble IMO. Took my husband and I about 2 hours to put together once it was all unpacked. Still can't believe the quality for the price I paid.
I have a 14" mattress on order and am wondering how a mattress of this height would look on this bed? Can anyone get a sense who has the bed?jessiethe3rd on Jan 24, 2014Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
Thank you for shopping with us jessiethe3rd. Your mattress would probably cover the bottom of the head board by an inch at the most just based on the 12 inches of space between the bottom of the head board and top of the side rail. Have a great day.overstockcustomercare1 on Jan 27, 2014
The higher the mattress the better. I placed two box springs and a 12" pillow mattress on the bed leaving plenty of headboard exposed. I did an overkill on the height and no one can even tell.iegg on Mar 11, 2014
Can you please tell me the height from fthe floor to the top of headboard? How much space is between the top of the headboard, and the top rail?

Thank you for shopping with us tjs1825. From the floor to the top of the side rail was 11 1/2 inches and from the side rail to the bottom of the head board was an additional 12 inches. The head board is 28 1/2 inches. The space between the top of the head board and rail is 40 1/2 inches. The height from the floor to the top of the head board is 51 3/4 inches. I'd like to mount mirrors on the canopy. Is the canopy strong enough to support 40 lbs of mirrors? Also, would 63" mirrors fit width-wise inside the canopy (I'd really love to see the exact *inside* dimensions of the canopy area, in order to determine how to mount mirrors to the canopy). What are the measurements for the height of the side rails, the acutal wood pieces top to bottom? U understand they start 3.94 inches from the floor and that the bed rails sit 7 7.8 inches from the floor inside. I am wondering how tall they are and what size box spring they will cover and have the mattress sit above the rail. Thank you.dallass on Sep 10, 2013Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
Thank you for shopping with us dallass. The side rail is 10 1/4 inches wide. The slat rail is 7 inches from the top. There are cross beams also measured at 1 1/2 inches thick, ends are cut out. A box spring that is probably 7 inches will put your mattress over the side rail. I hope this helps.overstockcustomercare1 on Sep 19, 2013

When the box spring is used, does it sit down low enough where it can not be seen, or do you need to use some sort of dust ruffle? It has the look of a platform bed, but it is not, so just trying to make sure I won't have a box spring hanging out!amandarutland37 on Aug 10, 2013Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question

Has anyone used this with a memory foam or latex mattress and box spring?
How long have you used it like this?
Did it hold and/or fit well?
And is it comfortable being used like this?ferazo26 on Jul 12, 2013Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
Hello ferazo26, We do not recommend using a memory foam or latex mattress with a box springs. Because of the conforming nature of memory foam, it needs a flat, sturdy, non-spring foundation. An inadequate foundation is a leading cause for the mattress's failure to meet the expectations of comfort and durability, and can also void the warranty.
In our research, we find that others have used a sturdy piece of plywood over the top of the box springs to cover the gaps and provide a firm foundation if using a memory foam mattress.
Thank you for shopping with us and we invite other comments.overstockcustomercare1 on Jul 17, 2013

Hello dallass...the overall dimensions are 83.07 high x 85.67 deep x 64.29 inches wide. According to a previous question, the height from the floor to the footboard is 14 inches. We would then estimate the area from the footboard to the top of the rail is approximately 69 inches high x 64 inches wide x 85 inches long. Please let us know if you have additional questions and thank you for shopping with us.
