My fiance and I are very picky, we went back and forth on a few styles of beds for a long time. We wanted romantic, yet modern and clean- lined. Achieving this with a canopy bed can be tricky. This bed was a perfect meeting of both desires. You can dress this bed up or down. The only downside (my fiance is currently overseas) is that contrary to the other reviews, I found building the bed a bit tedious. Using the included 4 mm hex wrench for tightening the screws was hard on my fingers. I had used an allen wrench before, but not the little hex wrench. I admit, it is a very clever way of screwing in a straight screw from an angle, but the edges definitely left my fingers a little irritated. Also, I wish the description could include the information that a rubber mallet is needed so I could have bought it prior to delivery and not had to run to the hardware store before I could begin the build process (because I was so excited to see my new bed finished!) In the end, however, it was worth it and I managed to build and assemble all the pieces myself. Not to mention, it looks expensive, but has an awesome price. The end result is a dream, I love sleeping in this bed and it makes me feel like a princess/ duchess/ queen while still having the style of the modern world :)
Where do I start?! Well, my husband and I searched far and wide for a black canopy bed to go along with my black vanity mirror. We came across many and they were either too extravagant, too old school, too expensive or claimed to be black and were actually a dark brown wood. Then I came across the canopy in Crate and Barrel, I looked at that bed for months before I came across this one in Overstock. I liked the one in Crate but it was a bit on the pricey side. I read these reviews and again, like I said this picture does the bed absolutely NO justice! It is so sexy, elegant, sleek and sturdy! This bed took me and my husband three hours to build . The only extra tool that we needed was a hammer. I do recommend that if you have wood or tile floors you lay a sheet on the floor so as not to scratch the bed. We didn't do this and now we have a small scratch on the head board, easy fixing though, all we'll need is a little black wood paint. Hey, for the price! You can't beat it! As for the bed not having enough storage space on the bottom because of how low it is to the ground, we fixed that by buying black bed risers from home depot. It raised it really beautifully and did not take away the look of the bed. As a matter of fact it blends in quite nicely, and if you ask me a higher bed gives the room more elegance! =) Well, that's it. I am now off to go enjoy my bed. This bed is exactly what I was looking for, it's both elegant and modern and looks great in my bedroom without taking up too much space. It wasn't difficult to put together, it took 2 of us about 1.5 hours or so and the instructions are pretty straightforward. The hard part is the beams on the top. One of my beams was actually damaged on arrival, but Overstock was great they sent me a replacement right away. You definitely need at least 2 people to put in the top beams because they overlap and only one screw is used for each corner. I'm so glad I bought this bed, and for such a great price...the same bed was $1200 at Crate and Barrel!
I read the reviews carefully because I've never purchased such a large piece of furniture without seeing it in person first. Everything the other reviewers said was true. The weight and quality of the bed when it's put together is even sturdier than I expected. The black wood has a nice subtle grain in it. The assembly could be done by one person but I'd recommend two because there are times when you need to prop things up a certain way and letting them fall would mean either a gouge in your wall or a dent in your nice new bed. I was tempted to build it myself but I'm glad I waited for my husband to help. Overall I'm very satisfied. This bed could have cost twice as much and still been worth the money.
This is the 1st bed I have ever bought myself. I wanted to do it right and buy a quality bed that would last me for a while. I did my research. I was skeptical about ordering a bed online. I did my legwork all over town, going to multiple different furniture stores. Finding a canopy bed was a task in itself. The few I found in town that I liked in appearance, style and quality were out of my price range or crap, made out of such soft wood it failed the fingernail mark test. I decided to turn to the internet and stumbled upon this bed. I actually bought this bed because of the reviews left by others. I was amazed when I ordered it and it arrived in 2 days! The first thing I noticed was the weight of this bed as I lugged the packages upstairs, this is some quality hardwood. Upon opening the boxes you see what a nice rich color that has been given to this bed. It was well packaged and everything was wrapped so there were no nics or dings. It was pretty easy to set up. I did it by myself in a couple of hours. It just took a while and had a lot of steps, but really, if I did it anyone can. If you are looking for a new bed I strongly suggest this one. I absolutely love mine!
Great bed - love the look - word to the wise though: I got a queen but the sticker identifying the "top" of the head board wasn't accurate. It was at the bottom. The whole thing put together that way makes other pieces shorter (head board bottom brace) or longer (upper canopy horizontal member) than they should be. The top of the headboard actually measures a 1/2" longer, which doesn't seem like a lot but makes all the difference in the world in putting it together. Moral of the story - check your measurements first and don't assume the sticker placement is correct. We had to put our "common sense hat" on to figure out the issue. I was about ready to send it back because the pieces didn't fit. Other than that - love the bed.
My and my husband had been looking for a canopy bed for so long and came across this one on Overstock. I refused to pay $1,000 for a canopy bed else where. It takes 2 people to put the bed together. It took me and my husband 3 hours to put together. One thing about putting it together was all the screws and pieces were already assorted in each individual bags. Made that process so much more easier. The product was shipped well with no damages. If you are uncertain about making this purchase go for it...On top of it the bed is real wood. It's a very heavy and sturdy bed. Every time we walk in our bedroom we say, Lord thank you!
