The mugs are well made, attractive and high quality from a German company with a good reputation. The idea behind these mugs seemed so cute- 24 numbered stars on each mug for you remove one each day and by Christmas day you have a Christmas mug with 24 different Christmas pictures. The problem is with the stars. It's not really apparent in the photo but the stars are small and do not adequately cover the pictures underneath them so it's completely obvious what the hidden picture is even before the star is removed. And the fun of an Advent Calendar is supposed to be the surprise. So I did not get quite what I was expecting which were mugs where the hidden pictures were in fact hidden. I do not think I would have bought these mugs if I had seen them in a store. I still think the idea is great and if the stars had been large enough to completely cover the pictures I would have been totally pleased by this product.

Got this set of 4 matched coffee cups, they are really nice to look at and wonderful to use. They hold the heat well and has quickly become our favorite mugs to drink coffee out of.

The FAQ said that these mugs were made in Germany, but they are not. They are made in China. I have several older Waechtersbach mugs made in Germany (as well as some made in Spain, identical to the German ones), and these new ones are both larger and heavier. The handles are chunkier and the glaze color less more raucous and less pleasant. I am not happy with these mugs at all. It's one thing to ship production to China, but why did the company have to change the model and quality so noticeably? Very disappointed, caveat emptor.
