The island was packed securely in 3 separate boxes. Once we separated and accounted for all the parts and pieces it took approximately 3 hours for my husband and I to put it together. It has a lot more storage than I anticipated which is a definite bonus. We've also had several people comment how well manufactured and appealing it is too. Only wish they sold matching backless stools for the island vs chairs. Very pleased customer!!
Once the island was assembled, it was great. This is clearly a two person assembly project. After spending several hours trying to get the first 2 assembly instructions completed, I realized that by tying the back on each side, it would stay together. These ties are removed before final parts are attached. I also found that it was necessary to tie the sides once the top rails were attached. this made it possible to get this assembled. Once this was fully assembled and in place, the effort was worth it. Be sure to allow at least 6 hours to get this together. The instructions were fine and all parts came in good condition and all predrilled holes lined up.
I REALLY wanted to love this island. Even though I didn't have a hand in putting it together, I can still give it an evil eye! I am a very good comparison shopper and this particular island, whether with or without the granite top, has its price all over the place. I do give O.S. a nod for having the best price, especially factoring in no tax and their incredible shipping cost. But, even using a 10% off coupon, this is still a pricey piece when one has to fully assemble it. The corners of the top came marred and there is one scratch on the granite top, but I might just have to "forgive" those problems, as once that granite top is on, baby... it ain't going anywhere! I will just used some furniture touch up markers on the corners and consider the scratch the first "ding" that was going to happen sooner than later. All in all, I really depend on using an island as a buffet server for my holiday dinners or get togethers and I loved the styling of this one. I don't know if casters would be a good option for the piece (the movable drop leaf legs do have wheels) but I do not see moving this out and back as needed, as I was able to do with my other island. Once positioned, this monster is going to SIT! During the course of assembly, I kept announcing that a 74 y/o woman professed to putting this together, by herself, minus the granite top. Yeah, I was asked to leave the room and I have to scratch my head whether the reviewer is dyslexic and meant 47. :)
