Looks great after it was put together and in all honestly after the two supports for the headboard were attatched , the rest went fairly quickly. The main problem is attatching the support legs to the head board. It is CRAZY monotonous. They give you a hex wrench to place four bolts on both sides and only turn 1/4 inch at a time. I do not regret the purchase at all, but hated the headboard. There were more than a few choice words putting it together.
Yes, the bed was time consuming to put together...but worth the wait. It is stunning - and very solid. Great value! Also, I only have a mattress - no boxspring. I think a mattress set would be too high and would cover too much of the headboard.
I am deeply pleased with my bed purchase from Overstock. Although it can be assembled by one person, I would recommend two. I agree with other reviews that the only design flaw is when constructing the headboard. My fingers just fit into that space, and it still took a while to screw everything in. However, the sense of achievement when you set sight on the finished product outweighs any negative feelings you may have had when putting the bed together. I feel as if I have a bed that will actually last me a lifetime.
Beautiful looking bed - the picture accurately depicts how it will look and it has a rich appearance. It arrived within the time expected and all went well until we started to assemble it. The headboard attaches to the side posts through four small screws on each side (8 in all) which are each set into a "well" carved out in the headboard. The well is about 2" in length and 3/4" in width and in order to tighten the screws, you need to somehow get a tool into that small well. Even when we figured out which tool to use (it needs one of those small tools for "kit" furniture that is bent at a right angle), you couldn't turn the screw more than the width of the well, which made the process of tightening the screw tedious and slow. [Unfortunately, to add to our frustration, when my husband had it all done and the bed fully assembled, we realized that we had the headboard on backwards, with the "well" side facing front instead of towards the wall... so he to patiently unscrew all those 8 screws, switch the headboard around, and then ighten them all over again. It took him hours to unbend.] The bed was in good condition except for some rather deep scratches in the footboard that are quite noticeable... we must still contact Overstock about that problem. And, beware: the footboard sticks out about 3/4" from the post, so sure enough, just as one prior reviewer had predicted, my husband stubbed his toe on that corner the first night. (It's a quick learning curve... you don't repeat that mistake twice.) All in all, the bed was certainly worth the price and looks beautiful, and prior reviewers had warned about the assembly issues, so we knew what we were getting into when we bought it. However, because of the difficult assembly and the damaged footboard, I can't give this product the full five stars it would otherwise merit.
I received the boxes about a week after I ordered. There was a little scuff on the back side of the head board which I'll never see anyway. The headboard piece is thinner than I thought it would be so to my mind it looks cheaper in real life than it does in the picture. The bed is now assembled and the overall design is surprisingly good BUT... The first step in the assembly is adding the legs to the headboard. Part of this is achieved by using an Allen wrench to tighten some screws in the headboard. This is an extremely frustrating procedure. The space in which you have to work was obviously designed on a computer. I'm sure the math is elegant, but the tolerances are just too tight. I could have used just a few more millimeters! Those 8 screws took as long (maybe longer) than the whole rest of the assembly. After you finish that step the rest of the bed goes together easily. After a nights rest on the bed, I can tell you that most of the back pain I incurred assembling the bed has subsided.
I shopped for a bed for a while. This product is better than anything I fund at the local furniture stores in this price range. Its not the simplest thing ot put together - I would advise you to have your own set of Allen wrenches - the ones that come with the set are shabby for the task. And definately have an electric drill.
Wow, this bed is amazing! I cannot believe the price we were able to buy it for. When my wife and I were going through Overstock and saw this bed we knew it was exactly what we were looking for. After reading the other reviews we were prepared for the worst with the assembly, but it really was not that bad. There are 4 screws on the back of the headboard that were amazingly difficult to install - but that is because I am not a handyman and do not own a ratcheting wrench. After that was done, everything was a breeze and the bed looks GREAT. I would recommend this to anyone who is trying to add some style to the bedroom.
I read the reviews about how hard the bed is to assemble, and bought it with that full knowledge. So, I cleared a whole day and wound up only needing two hours. I think the trick is a power screwdriver/ drill. I used a cordless drill and it made the job fly right by. Now, I've got a great looking bed that I'm super happy with.
This bed is beautiful! I was almost afraid to buy it due to the comments about how difficult assembly was, but liked the look too much not to. It really wasn't that hard to assemble. I put it together by myself in just under two hrs. The only difficult part is getting the headboard together and it isn't so much difficult as it is time consuming. The bed is solid and just gorgeous. If you have been looking for a platform bed, buy this one!
The bed is very strong / sturdy. Instructions were easy to understand. One part of the assembly that is just a bear to do. I would recommend getting a ball end allen wrench to help out with installing the bolts to the head board. Assembly took 3 hours. The rest of the product is wonderful. When getting in and out of bed there is very little squeak noise that comes from it. Over all I'm very happy.
Before I even started the construction, super glue exploded on my hands. So it's easy to see how frustrated I was. Then, the first step of assembly is getting the head board attached to the 2 side boards. I've got to say that this part of the directions could possibly be the worst thing I have ever experienced in my entire life. Well, that may be exaggerating a little bit, but you get the idea. The rest of the assembly was pretty straightforward, but my frustration from part 1 remained constant throughout. The end product is quite redeeming if I may say so myself. The color of the wood is truly passionate, my wife was thoroughly impressed. I look forward to years of utilization of this bed, with a few mattress changes in the works. I don't recommend memory foam mattresses, by the way. Feather bed mattress pads are the way to go.
I searched for a bed for over a year before I was recommended overstock by a friend and "nervous as I was" ordered this bed. SO GLAD I DID! It beautiful and exactly what I was looking for. Much better quality than I expected, very solid and beautiful wood tone. Only two negatives I can think of- (1) Putting it together was no picnic- make sure you have an extra set of hands to help. (2) The corners are pretty sharp so it might be an issue with small kids. That being said, I very happy with my bed- five stars.
this bed is really nice, especially for the price. It is solid and sturdy and sleeps well. Make sure you are used to a "no box spring" sleeping situation as this bed does not accommodate the height of a box spring and mattress. It's not as hard to put together as some of the other reviews stated, but it was kind-of annoying. It showed up in three big boxes and the directions were clear.
The bed is beautiful, everything I had hoped for. Solid wood construction, no mars or blemishes, and heavy/sturdy. I am very glad I made this purchase. I must echo the misgivings of other reviewers regarding the assembly of the headboard to the uprights. The designers should be ashamed. I finally found a workaround: I used a right-angled ratcheting bit driver* with a 2 1/4" extension with success, (*a Torx or hex bit will work). The good news is, once you get past that step, the rest is a piece of cake! All in all, it's worth the effort.
We love this bed frame! It is a bit of a pain to put together, but totally worth it. The wood is solid and a beautiful rich color. The design is very distinct with an Asian flair making it a perfect complement to any decor. We are using it for our 4 year old daughter, who is moving from a toddler bed to this bed since it is relatively low with no box spring necessary. This is a high quality bed frame, which is uniquely beautiful and definitely worth the time and effort to put together!
Purchased 10-07 and arrived within a week... assembled last night, took me (alone) about 3 hours. Not difficult to put together, but does require patience, as some of the bolts are in tight spots. Attaching the posts to the headboard was the most challenging, as this is where access to the bolts is short. Concur with other posts that once assembled, this bed is best moved in one piece. (Or keep those included Allen wrenches!) Other than that, simply fabulous! My husband was impressed when he saw it, and guessed the price to be twice what I paid! Was able to re-home our box spring, so this lightens the load and enables me to move the bed much easier for cleaning purposes. The profile beneath this bed is slightly higher than our old one, allowing a bit more storage space under the platform. Simply a great value!
