This canopy is stunning in appearance and construction. It is clean and architectural in feeling. The picture does not do it justice. To boot, the beige is exactly the same shade as our stucco house. The only regret is that Overstock doesn't seem to have the larger, 17' x 17' size!
We have open space around our house and I put this off the kitchen door so we can finally use the patio! Plus it helps to keep the kitchen cooler. My husband wants one now to put outside the garage so he can work out there in comfort. I use to sew this type of fabric and the quality is excellent. I see using this for many years.
I purchased a Square Sail and was very impressed with the sturdiness of construction and the attachment points. I was leery of the attachment points and if there was reinforcement along the whole length of the material. I was favorably impressed with both. A triangular attachment eye of what appears to be 304 stainless steel, approximately 5/16" diameter on each corner. These eyes are welded shut and attached to the fabric with a robust nylon mesh strap that is sewn along the entire edge of the sail.
The sail came with all the hardware to install it, turnbuckles, nylon rope, concrete anchors and eye bolts.
The material is somewhat translucent, I purchased yellow, giving a very cheerful, natural looking hue underneath. As expected, it is very shady underneath. The material is NOT waterproof, although it appears to resist water. I am going to test a section with marine canvas waterproofing spray to see if I can make it more resistant to water.
The sail is not square when you lay it flat on the ground. It is narrower in the center than the ends. This is something I did not expect in my design but it looks very nice. I was so pleased with it that I ordered a second one.
Top notch Quality. I work on sailboats and know what to look for in fabric construction. This is a very good prouduct that is built to last. The hardware on it is also of heavy quality. It has a nice conture--great lines. Not just a square tarp. I found this same shade sold by other retailers and overstock beat them by almost half price.
We love the look and purpose of our new sunshade.
Unfortunately, it was not the easiest thing to put up. The hardware included didn't even work with the shade so we had to purchase all new hardware. Luckily, my husband is pretty handy and we have great neighbors. We attached it to our house and steel beams we added to our deck.
We've had it for a couple of weeks and it seems to hold up well to wind and rain, as we just had a storm pass through. The shade itself seems to be very durable with sturdy seams and D ring attachment.
I do like the shade but you may need help figuring how to best put it up as well as help getting it up. Make sure there is a center peak by putting two opposite corners high and the other two low so the rain will roll off and not make a pond in the center. Be prepared to buy hardware that works with the item. Make sure where you're attaching the shade is at least a few feet larger than the size of the shade so you can tighten up the slack easily. (notice the picture has the shade between trees that are very distant from each other)
That's my experience. Enjoy.
This is a great product! I might even order a spare. It was fairly easy to install over our 12 x 12 deck. The shade it provides in our kitchen makes for nice afternoons. We love the sail! We did end up having to purchase some different hardware in order to install it into the side of our house, but other than that the product comes as described.
Our household budget does not allow a new covered patio just yet, so I ordered two of these to cover the entire patio as a temporary solution. I was very impressed with the material and the hardware. Easy installation as well. We had friends over the same afternoon and the covers handled the brutal Houston summer day quite well and we received a bunch of compliments.

Not at all. Rain will filter through it, primarily through the low point of the fabric. The fiber is not tightly woven and sealed like a tarp.guest099 on Aug 9, 2013
Is there any warranty on this product? We purchased this product from you and installed the medium square sail at the begining of April 2013 and today June 28, 2013 the binding on the sides have come apart on one side of the sail and broke. We have purchased another brand at a big box store and have had them for almost 3 years with no problems. Please let me know!deenuh on Jun 28, 2013Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question

This is a woven fabric. It weathers well, is somewhat tranparent so letting in light and holds its color.thebish on May 28, 2013
Pardon my ignorance, but i have a patio with stucco walls, with conxrete behind. How do you anchor a sunsail? And, most important, i absolutely must hAve some protection from direct sunrats; blocking add much direct sunlight as possible. Will this help? I'm assuming a lighter color helps with that?artemis23 on Apr 13, 2013Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
I'm not sure how to anchor the sail in your particular application. If you are a dyi type, you could approach someone at the local hardware store for advice. I have found them to be willing to help. My guess is that you will need to drill holes and drive an anchor into the holes, Then mount a ring or "eye" to the wall. This is going to have to be substanial to stand up to the stresses. If you know or can find a reputable handy-man, it shouldn't be a big job, but may cost you an hour or two of time. By the way, this provides shade, but is woven, not solid. I'd describe it as shade with some sunlight penetration, not like standing under a solit roof. More like under a tree where a little light gets through.karenrenee on Apr 14, 2013
When we installed ours, we anchored it to the wood trim we had with bolts, but I am sure you can show someone at a hardware store like Home depot or Lowes what you have and they can help you to get the supplies needed to installed correctly. Our had withstood lots of rain and strong winds and still holding strong 5 years later. Good Luck!olivers2 on Jul 10, 2013
The shade is made of low density polyethylene. Thank you for your interest.
overstockcustomercare1 on Mar 29, 2013
low desity polyethylene is accurate, but doesn't tell you what it is like. It feels like a stiff canvas fabric with a slick finish. The fabric after two years in the Texas sun is not showing age. It is not "solid" and allows some sun through, but it is adequate to shade -like a tree, not a roof.karenrenee on Apr 14, 2013
We have some plants bordering the patio area to be covered. If outdoor plants are partially covered by the shade (hibiscus) will they still get enough sun?emcbride on Mar 16, 2013Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
Thank you for your inquiry. Although they often thrive in completely sunny locations, hibiscus do not actually need as much direct sunlight as is commonly thought. As long as the plants receive a few hours of direct sunlight they should be ok.overstockcustomercare1 on Mar 19, 2013
It filters the not sun, yet sufficient lightdelawarewoman on Mar 26, 2013
That will depend on the plant. It isn't like putting them under a roof. Some sun will get through. More like putting them under a tree - small points of light still get through.karenrenee on Apr 14, 2013
I am looking for something that can be put up and taken down for specific occasions like an outdoor party -- not to be kept up for the entire season. Are these sun shades made for that kind of use? In other words, easy set-up and take down and made to withstand repeated dismantling? on Jul 15, 2012Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
According to reviews, this item is better suited for permanent installations. It is not recommended for repeated dismantling.overstockcustomercare1 on Jul 17, 2012
It is easy - but the hardest part is putting the anchors in and pulling it tight enoughdelawarewoman on Mar 26, 2013

Based on the reviews of this and/or other sunsails on Overstock.com, it looks as though the dimensions listed are for the corner installation points. What are the dimensions of the shade material itself?onoitsdino on Jun 15, 2012Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
We live in the desert southwest and have had this shade installed for about 10 years. We have never taken it down and it is still in great condition. I would not hesitate to purchase this shade again, should it ever fail. Be sure to secure it well so that it gets minimal movement in the wind.shade4arizona on Mar 20, 2013
