Was looking for something just like this, to go in the guest bedroom. I have put baskets underneath and all the TV stuff in the center shelf and drawers. Easy to read instructions with legible images (a rarity!) and even easier to put it together (everything included) took maybe 15min tops. Honestly, it took more time to get it all out of the box than it did putting all four pieces together. Came very well packaged too - no issues with dinged corners or scratches. The wood is a nice color, and it's a nice finish... not shiny, nor cheap looking. Metal legs are sturdy, the drawers are already put together and in the top section right out of the box. It doesn't get much easier than this for a DIY item. Overall, well worth the price paid, the minimal effort to assemble and quality of the finished product.

We tried two other RTA bookcases, one from Overstocks and one from that *** place, and the quality was terrible -- uneven finish, broken parts, not solid wood as advertised. So we were very reluctant to try this one. But the description said 100% solid wood so we took a chance. The phone rep also confirmed that the material was rubberwood and we have had good luck with that before so we were a bit more confident. And we were very pleased when the unit arrived. Excellent packing, excellent instructions, our only negative was that the camlocks that come with the unit are pot metal, not real steel, so drop by your local hardware store and pick up 4or 6 extras because I guarantee you will break a few. The unit is solid, very heavy, quite spacious and finished very well. The only other negative is that the camlocks and covers do show, but we expected that because the picture on the website clearly showed that. Overall, a great purchase and Overstock came through once again.

This is a fine shelving unit. The only problems I've had with it (after more than a year of owning it) are that the middle support beam under the bottom shelf does not like to stay in place, the color of the unit is lighter than the dark walnut as pictured and the little wooden inserts that cover the screw holes pop out incessantly. Otherwise, the unit is fine.

The instructions state "Two people are needed to complete assembly'. Take heed! I thought i could do it alone, but Two People Are Needed! Once we got the tope secured to the bottom, I was very pleased. There is more than ample room for knick knacks & books & things!

This is awsome for the price, a little tricky putting together but looks great and is very sturdy, perfect for where I wanted it.

We purchased two of these shelves to go side by side and the quality is great. The wood is heavy and the stain looks really nice. The depth of the shelves work well and they are sturdy and not wobbly at all. We used wood glue when putting some parts together, just in case, and are very happy with this item.

If you have ever purchased this type of furniture in the past, you know what to expect. Quality isn't top of the line in comparison to the major brands out there but for this price, I paid again in an instant. No frustrations what so ever with the assembly. It takes time but with a bit of patience and screwing, you will have a functional item that looks like more expensive versions. It was packed extremely well and UPS dropped it right in front of my door 5-6 days after ordering. It is now looking beautifully right next to my newly bought entertainment unit, also from Overstock.

A bit annoying to put together. Easier to assemble with two peoiple. The instructions for assembly are horribly written. Other than that, it's a nice looking book shelf.

Easy to assemble. Very convenient, looks good, like natural solid wood.

This shelf made my fiancee very happy. Looks great in our living room, especially because we recently moved in and the walls were looking very bare. Similar design to a shelf seen at crate and barrel, but this is solid wood.

Nice solid wood shelf. Granted it's a lightweight wood, but seems pretty sturdy. Easy to assemble - I did it myself in twenty minutes (but I do have a lot of furniture assembly experience). Love the graduated shelves. One note, I accidently nicked the edge of a shelf with my fingernail. Not a big deal, but it's evidence to me that this would probably nick and scratch easily, so best for use as a shelf more for decoration than high traffic.

Don't buy this if you're looking for a 5 shelf bookcase; this only has 4 shelves. I received this bookcase today, shipping speed was average, I ordered on a Friday and received it on the next Thursday. When I opened the box, I found 2 dents already in the wood and a few scratches but I didn't want to deal with sending it back to wait on a new one so I plan on covering the bookshelf possibly with cloth to hide these nicks. It took me about 2 1/2 hours to put together by myself, I imagine it would've been faster if I had someone helping me. The instructions were helpful but the back bars seemed like each one would only go in specific holes, which was not in the directions. The hex screws stripped easily and I was worried the shelf was going to split if I tried to tighten it (some holes seemed sloppily pre-drilled). I tightened all screws as tight as i could with the hex key without breaking the shelf but when it's all assembled, it's questionable if it could handle something jarring it, such as a slight earthquake or a toddler touching it. Aesthetically pleasing, I am pleased overall with this purchase but would recommend the heavier books being on the bottom, don't put fragile, precious memories on top, and possibly a weight holding it down behind it.

I was very happy with your product. It was even much nicer than I thought it would be. A little hard to assembly, but once it was assembled - it was truly worth the work. It is truly worth the money. I would definitely recommend. I ordered for my daughter and she loves it. Thanks.

Veneer covered particle board, it is not solid wood.

There are a LOT of pieces to this one, and I am a pretty slow assembler, so it took me a while. I really love the finished product though and appreciate the unique look once I added my own books and personal touches to all the little nooks and crannies in the completed bookcase. I would absolutely recommend this unit to a friend, and then promise to help them build it once it arrived!

It is not made of wood. The quality is about the average level. But the style is good looking and guess it will do it job.
It's not unusual for bookshelves to incorporate multiple materials for different features. If you haven't decided on wood, wood products, metal or glass bookshelves, look at their relative strengths and weaknesses. Look below to learn the best bookshelf materials. Wood: "Solid wood" is a common term for furniture made from lumber planks. Beware of making assumptions based on labels like "hardwood" and "softwood." Hardwoods are derived from deciduous trees and softwoods from coniferous trees; the terms don't connote their relative strengths. Balsa is a hardwood even though it is very soft, just as Douglas fir is a softwood even though it is very hard. They all make excellent, classic stock material for bookcases. Generally, harder woods are the heavier and more resistant to scratches. Still, softer woods, if treated correctly, will keep just as well as harder woods. Plywood: Made by stacking thin sheets -- "plies" -- of lumber and gluing them under pressure, plywood features grains that alternate direction for strength. Several grades are available, of differing cost. Top and bottom plies can be high-quality woods to create the appearance of fine woods, but edge veneer or molding is needed to complete the illusion. Particleboard: Wood chips glued together carry a much lower price tag than solid wood, and particleboard is denser and more uniform. It's a great choice when cost is the primary consideration. Bookshelves crafted from veneered composite boards can look and feel as good as real wood. MDF: Wood fibers, tiny chips and sawdust collected and glued into sheets form medium-density fiberboard (MDF). Low-cost MDF makes an excellent base for veneers; plus, its strength is consistent and it shapes well. Metal: There's a reason most library bookshelves are made from metal: Metal bookcases are resistant to moisture and fungus, their low-friction shelves are easier on books' bindings and metal's strength-to-weight ratio can't be beat. Their cost usually comes in below any other material. Glass: Glass bookshelves weigh more than other types, but if you plan on assembling your bookshelves only once, the style points can be well worth it. Tempered glass shelves (in wood or metal uprights, called "standards") give your home an unbeatable contemporary feel, and glass bookcases' smooth, transparent surfaces add brilliant levity to a decorating piece that might otherwise be notably opaque and heavy.
