Read my review
from Lowell, MA,  Sep 21, 2013

I purchased this because I wanted a Glass kettle. It is a large capacity kettle, and does become heavy when filled to its maximum level. I returned the first one, only because it did not "shut off", but what I found out with the second one is that the cap has to be securely in place to maintain the heat to signal the unit to shut off. (This was not noted in the instructions) If you need a large capacity kettle, this is the one. If you only need to boil water once in a while, I would look for a smaller unit.

Lovely Kettle
from The Great NorthWet,  Dec 30, 2014

This is a lovely-to-look-at-and-use kettle, made with borosilicate glass (lab glass). However, to keep it from boiling dry, you MUST make sure the top is closed, and that is more of a difficulty - because it looks like it's closed, but it's not. Also, the little tab you use to make sure it's properly opened or closed gets steamy hot with use, and you have to use your fingers, so be advised. The instructions actually say its to be unplugged when not in use, and to never leave it alone while using. Well, after having it for a month, I would advise doing that; because the unclosed/latched top seemed to give way (at least one time) and was boiling madly peeling the paint on the cupboards. The tricky part is the latch, because no matter how I read the instructions, I didn't realize for a while that it is a little tab arrangement on the top of the lid. You would normally use your thumb to make sure this is open or closed - the trouble is, it can "feel" closed and look closed, but not be fully closed. You'll see by the other reviews that others have obviously had this difficulty, or never discovered the little thumb latch before the kettle boiled dry. The "turn on" switch is also a bit bad in that it sticks out a bit from the kettle - if a plate or such is too close to the switch, it may jam the off/on and keep the kettle boiling. So - not foolproof, not for kids to use, not for continuous use (parts get too hot), and you have to "be there" for it - no walking into the next room and forgetting the kettle. Beautiful to use, fun to watch, stylish and great with supervision.
