So I got this idea that I would grind my own cuts of meat so I would know what I'm getting. I remembered my grandmother using a grinder like this and making sausage. It looked easy enough. This meat grinder; however, is nothing like the one my grandmother used. This one weighs a TON! Despite the fact that it weighs a ton, in order to use it, it would have to be bolted to a surface to steady it, or it would shift while in use. Good luck with that if you have a solid countertop. I used it once with the assistance of my husband, who held it in place while I attempted to grind some meat. That didn't work very well, was really not worth the effort, and I never used it again. This was NOT a good value for my money and I would not recommend buying it unless you have a surface to which it can be permanently affixed for use--then of course it would be a bear to clean...
I bought this as a gift for my husbad, (fish fry master of the universe) and now he has something to compliment his fish! We love the cut of the potatos. You do have to have a little oomph to push the potato through but that is to be expected. Nice quality, this slicer will be at many family gatherings to come!
from DC Metro Area/Maryland,
I should have ordered the No. 8 - a smaller one. This one is too big and clunky. Doesn't even fit on the edge of my counter. Will give it to someone in my family who might use it and who might have the right type of counter tops. Never got to use it so can't really rate it's performance.
