  • Powerful fan moves a lot of air

    My old 20 inch fan finally died. I live in New York city and the fan got lots of use to minimize air conditioning cost. I often ran it continuously for days in the warmer months. It was a good heavy duty model. One reason I ordered this particular fan to replace it is because the web page says "made in USA". On receipt, the inner box actually says "assembled in USA". Not quite the same thing. That means the motor and parts could be from anywhere. Out of the box the stand requires a very simple assembly. Takes about 3 minutes with a small philips head screwdriver to loosen 2 screws, fit the 2 arms of the bottom piece into place, and then re-tighten the screws. Once assembled, it's a no brainer to plug in the fan and turn it on. The fan kicks out a tremendous amount of air even at the low speed. In a way, that's really my only complaint. There is very little difference between the 3 speed settings. I checked with my power meter and the fan draws about 160 watts on low, 170watts on medium, and 185watts on high. Chances are that if you find the "high" speed is too strong, turning it down to low isn't going to make much difference to you. OTOH the fan is so powerful even on "Low" that you may find you rarely need to turn it any higher even on a very hot day. The fan is as noisy as you would expect for what it does but there is no rattle or vibration that would indicate a problem. Seems to be pretty efficient, pumps a lot of air even though the motor is a lot smaller and lighter than my previous fan. I've had it running a few hours on "low" so far. The motor is warm to the touch, not hot. Other reviews mention a problem with the balance and stability of the stand. I'm not finding that to be true. The fan sits very solid and doesn't creep or tend to tip over while running. I guess with pets or small children in the home, some common sense would be required. Overall I'm happy enough with the fan. Just hoping it will hold up to heavy use
