Story Behind the Art:
Mr. Ampanan first learned the trade of mango wood about 15 years ago from his father. He now oversees a small group of five artisans, but is actively involved in almost every piece that leaves the workshop. His children are a little too young to get involved in the handicraft process, but he hopes that as they grow older they will choose to continue this family tradition. By employing other local artisans, Mr. Ampanan has allowed them to enjoy a better standard of living than farming, which is what 90-percent of the people in this village do for work. All mango wood products from Mr. Ampanan's workshop are environmentally responsible. When the mango tree can no longer bear fruit after about 25-30 years, he and his artisans use these trees as a means of expressing their creative talents. He hopes you enjoy using his products as much as he enjoys making them.
The handcrafted nature of this product will produce minor differences in design and sizing. Subtle variations will occur from piece to piece, adding to its unique qualities. Measurements may vary slightly.
