The rug is beautiful, lays great; but when placed on a hard floor, you find there is a need for a pad. If you are not using it to lay on, like I did (I have a 5 month old daughter and we play on it) then you will not need a pad. But overall, the rug is great! Oh and the red in the rug is really rich!
