We could not find a portable A/C to rent in this area and needed one to use in my father's house as we cleaned it out. 2/3 of his house does not have A/C. This A/C has been running continuously for 2 weeks now and has made rooms that would be 110 degrees more like 80 degrees. We would not have been able to work without the cooling this A/C provided. Also we received it in only 4 days!!!!! Thanks overstock.com
Even though it is a refurbished product it works great. We've been using it for a couple weeks now and it takes care of the dry humidity in the air and cools the room very well. I also like the LG brand as we also have a fridge and washer/dryer by LG and haven't had any issues.
This LG unit is great!! I've had a couple other units previous to this one, but this is much quieter. One added bonus is that you can use this also as a dehumidifier as well. It has sucked out quite a bit of moisture from my place as well. Much cheaper than the $600 at HD.
The LG 12,000 BTU Portable Conditioner and Heater (Refurb) , I purchased from Overstock, is a great buy, I priced this model. The LG model works as designed, really cools down a very large room quickly, with great temperture control.
Good looking, efficient, quiet and very effective. Cools large great room/kitchen with no problem.

The 2 important functions for me are cooling capability and noise. This unit is fair in the cooling capability and very noisy. There is an oscillating vibration coming from the compressor cavity which has contact with the floor in the normal operating position. I raised the front with a wedge and the noise level is now almost bearable...but the unit looks like a car on the jack! See another review about noisemichellevh from NJ, Jun 12, 2011. Also, this is not a self evaporating system. You have to drain the two tanks via the drain spouts in rear, one of which is 2 inches from the floor and a drain hose is not provided. Other than the self opening vent, this unit does not represent exceptional features and performance to justify it's shortcomings.

The first thing you notice is the size. It is every bit as big as R2D2 from the Star Wars movies. It comes up to my waist, and I am 6'5" tall. But once you get over the size of the unit, everything else is great. It cools off my apartment in a matter of minutes, and it's no louder than your standard window A/C unit. I sleep comfortably with it running. So far, it has worked better than I expected based on some of the other reviews. And, being from Overstock, it arrived in 2 days.

I purchased this A/C last year. The system was LOUD - much louder than the window A/C that it replaced. While it had 12,000 BTU rating, it had no where near the cooling capacity of my previous 8000 BTU window A/C unit. Just today, after less than 1 year of usage, the A/C conked out. It appears to be an electrical issue as the unit will start.. reset.. start over and over again. Stay away!

I'm not thrilled with this unit. When I put it on "dry", it only works if I put the temperature way down and then I'm not even sure if it works because there is never any water to be drained out of it. Also, it makes a vibrating noise when it reaches the desired temperature and that makes it hard to sleep. Shoving a fat book under one end seems to help with the vibrations a little bit.

I just finished the burdensome process of having this item returned to Overstock. After only a year of using the A/Cit broke down. Luckily I did purchase a two year extended warranty. I had two wait nearly 10 days, without cooling, over the one of the hottest Memorial day weekends on NYC record, for the repair person to come and fix the unit. The A/C was repaired but within 4 days it stopped cooling again! At this time I contacted Overstock for a full refund, which I was granted, but I was responsible for having this 100 pound+ unit shipped back to Overstock. I had to lug this huge unit down three flights of stairs, and 5 blocks away, into the UPS store, in the heat. I also had to find a way to package it up for shipping myself. I will be reimbursed for the cost of shipping and packing per Overstock Customer Service. At this point it really isn't the cost, it is the entire process and inconvenience of the waiting, in the heat, and the challenge of returning the item. Yesterday I purchased a high quality Friedrich unit of 12500 BTUs for my studio apartment at the **** in NYC (14th street Union Square location - including 2 year extended warranty- Service plan - it cost me $540). I AM FREEZING. It took less 15 minutes to cool the apartment (the above unit, when it worked, cooled the apartment in about an hour at it was inconsistent. It only really cooled the area around unit and not much else.). You get what you pay for.... I have learned my lesson.

My bedroom is the "hot spot' in my home where I've lived for 10 years. I purchased the AC because last year the summer was practically unbearable. We're just moving into our heat wave now down here in south Texas and I love the way it cools my room. I received my first electric bill after having it for over a month and it was less than half of what it was this time last year. I'm so pleased. And, yes, it's a good size and you'll need to make some space for it.

I bought this unit for my upstairs master bedroom. The bedroom is a modest size and this unit just didn't do the trick of cooling it down. Even the highest setting wasn't enough to cool off the room. I was quite disappointed...but to be honest, the hassle of sending it back wasn't worth it, so I kept it. It's a burdensome unit which sticks out like a sore thumb. There is a very thick but very short exhaust tube which doesn't provide you with many options as to where to place the unit (i.e., out of sight?) since it doesn't extend very far from the window. Overall, I am not happy with the unit. I based my purchase on the reviews which were quite favorable. It's unsightly, ineffective, and a waste of money.
The unit is huge and visually not what I expected. It's just about impossible to minimize its visual effect in our bedroom, which is about 15 x 15. The main unit is huge and extremely heavy and the hose that goes to the window is much larger than it looked online. But it works wonderfully. We've had no issue with the noise -- it's just become like white noise. We do have central AC in our house, but the bedroom never got quite cool enough and we were super-cooling a 3,000-sf house all night long just to get to a comfortable level in the bedroom for sleeping. Now we can keep the rest of the house significantly warmer and just run the unit when we sleep. The electric bill went down quite a bit and the comfort level through the rest of the house is much better. It cools the space almost immediately.
I live in a 3 story townhouse that turns into a sauna when it gets hot here in the Pacific Nortwest. I have East and West facing windows which makes it that much worse. I put this in my bedroom and leave the door open to cool down the adjacent rooms on the 3rd floor. I didn't expect it to work as well as it did and was even more shocked to see that my electric bill didn't reach triple digits. Yes it's big, yes it's loud, but being cool staying cool more than makes up for it.
My HOA won't allow a window unit so after reading reviews I tried this portable. It does cool but at a very hefty price, even when it's on energy saver. For five days I checked kilowatt usage every 24 hours and was surprised that the unit used more kilowatts than the central ac. Also the portable was too loud in the bedroom making sleep difficult even while using ear plugs. It's 105 lbs., so if you live upstairs and you're not a bodybuilder good luck. Because of the cost to run it and the noise, I sold it for a $125 loss.
The unit was enormous. It shocked me at first but I figured it would turn my bedroom into a refrigerator. The A/C showed up with no instructions but I had them ordered no prob and found some on the internet also. The front corner was busted open slightly from shipping. I believe it ran fine but I could not get my bedroom 12X15 and attached bathroom 10x12 to get anywhere near cool enough. I kept lowering the thermometer, even lowered it to 62 degrees. It seemed to cool less and less everyday. In the end I returned this product. Customer service was awesome. Since the unit was so huge they had UPS show up and pick it up. The refund was no problem. I did have to make a couple of phone calls to get the protection plan refund but everything worked out just fine. I ended up with a window unit (15,000 BTU) that worked much better. Since the LG had to be ventilated anyway, I figured I might as well save the floor space.
This portable a/c unit is great...my girls nana has one in her computer room and this thing can get COLD!! its kind of compact at the same time a tad bit big but it does its job...the only thing is that it can be a little loud because when i was watching the cowboys game i had to turn the t.v. up..other than that i was amazed of how it works and not to mention its an LG product (usually known for cell phones lol)...Great product would highly recommend for anyone who does not have central a/c unit
I've been looking for an additional portable A/C unit for my house for a while. I saw this LG at Overstock at a great price. I placed my order and within a week it was at my front door. Once the box was open, there is no way to tell that this unit was refurbished, It looks brand new. Set up was quite simple, within 10 minutes the LG was up and running cooling down my bedroom. This referb unit works great. I set the thermostat to 60 degrees and within 15 minutes I had my 20x20 bedroom at a very comfortable 65 degrees while the rest of the house was in the 90s. I'm thinking of placing another order for another LG soon. The price for this unit is great.
I've been using my air conditioner for about two months now in the HOT Chicago summer. It really cools the room quickly. The features are wonderful; I use the hours setting all the time. When I go to sleep I set it for two hours so that it will shut off automatically. I LOVE this feature!!! It is quiet, well, at least quieter than my window unit. I can actually hear the TV when it is on. It is kind of a space hog though. Make sure you have about three square feet to put it in. I was disappointed to learn that it does still need to be vented out a window; when I bought two of these, I thought I didn't have to put anything in the window but I was wrong. None-the-less, it takes up much less window space than the window unit so that I can have more light come in the room. It is also nice not having anything hanging outside my window.
The unit works great and arrived with a only a few scuffs.
