I have a problem keeping a sharp knife, and since I have joint pain it's been very hard for me. These knives are a HUGE help!
These knives are very nice. I was very happy to see them when they came in. They are very light, seeming almost cheap, but they slice very well. I have been a little reluctant to try to cut anything too hard because I don't want to break them. They are sharper than any other knives I've ever had. I am happy with my purchase.
I bought these knives after seeing them on TV. I didn't really expect them to be much better than a standard steel blade knife, but these ceramic knives are far better. They are so light compared to a steel knife. The blades are razor sharp and barely need any effort to cut a parsnip which normally had my old knives needing a good deal of pushing. Cleaning them has them come up sparkling and looking like new. The plastic sheathes covering the blades is a good idea as if you're not careful I could see you cutting yourself quite badly. The box is a good quality card one, but looks good and has nice padding with holes cut into it so the knives sit in place very nicely so you can store it on its side without the knives slipping. I couldn't recommend these knives any more if you're into cooking. Excellent quality and value for money.
I haven't used the 3-inch paring knife that much, but have given the 5.5 inch blade a lot of use on meat, vegetables and bread. It's incredibly sharp and even though the handle feels lightweight and cheap, it balances well with the ceramic blade which is lighter than steel. Prior to this, I had a similar black ceramic kitchen knife from Boker. It lasted over 5 years before I chipped the tip (which I've since re-shaped and sharpened using a diamond sharpening block). The new Kyocera is certainly sharper than the Boker at it's 5 year age, but that's to be expected. I'd probably rate them both equal. Be sure to follow the directions - don't try cutting through bone and use ceramic blades only on a cutting board - never on a granite counter.
Knives are great. Very sharp, cuts through meats and vegetables with ease. The only flaw I see, and a very slight one at that, is that it seems to stain easily. Just be sure to wipe them dry and all is good.
