SUMMARY: KRUPS FBC213: Controls seized, would not turn off unless unplugged. Customer service is worse than useless. Do not buy. DETAILS: Received a KRUPS FBC213 Toaster Oven as a wedding gift. Upon first use to toast some bread, the display showed unintelligible characters, and would not shut off by pressing the round Start/Stop button; only way to turn it off was to unplug it. I called Krups customer service, and they requested that I ship it to their New York repair facility at my own expense, which I did. I had kept all the original packing, thankfully, and sent it back to them with all padding and packaging in place (keep this in mind below...). Took longer than eight weeks to repair, during which time I called the repair facility several times to find out a status. All I was able to get was a recording that said "We are experiencing longer than expected repair times due to an influx of repairs and warranty claims. Please call back." After more than two months, we received the toaster oven back. They had shipped it with NO internal packing (see my packing comments above), and the tray inside the toaster oven, which was not secured down like it should have been with the original packaging, bounced around during shipping and shattered one of the elements. I called Krups right away and they again required that I ship back at my own expense for repair. I argued, asking that they simply send me a new one, and they said they only do that on the third warranty claim. I acquiesced and shipped the unit back. After six weeks I received the unit again. First attempt at toasting resulted in the original problem (gibberish on the LCD display and inability to shut off other than unplugging). I called customer service again, and they sent me a return shipping label (I didn't have to pay for shipping this time!) and said they would send me a new unit. Received the new unit and used it ~2 per week for the past two months. Today, same problem occurred: gibberish on the LCD display, and could only shut unit off by unplugging. Told my wife I was going to write a review warning others, then throw this thing in the trash. Glad I kept my original, dial operated Black & Decker unit! To conclude, this KRUPS toaster oven clearly has a dangerous defect (confirmed by other, similar reviews to this one). Please avoid, as it is truly a fire hazard. Hope this has been helpful.

I've used this oven everyday for the last 7 years. The side brace on the door just broke and the toast button sticks, is the only reason I'm shopping for a new oven right now. I decided to write this review, because I was surprised others didn't like the oven. I love how evenly the ceramic heating elements toast and bake. The crumb tray is easy to clean. I rarely use my full size oven anymore.

I owned this Krups convection toaster oven for six years - no problems whatsoever! Just last week it suddenly went kaput but I wasn't mad, just pleased that it lasted me that long. I felt compelled to write this review because I was shocked to see the low rating. I would have repurchased this model but I can't find it anywhere so I opted for the more expensive Breville 800 convection oven which is slightly bigger. I hope the Breville product lasts just as long. Thanks Krups!

This machine replaced my old Cuisinart. Much higher quality. Turned out to be about the same price as the old one too

I bought this unit about a year and half ago and just like in the reviews...I used it a couple of times and it would not shut off unless unplugged and it shows gibberish on the display. I don’t think it is a safe unit and would not recommend to anyone. Totally disappointed at Krups!

This was our second Krups Toasted Oven. The radiant heat cooks everything perfectly. Controls are simple and accurate. It will cook virtually anything. Oven size inside is bigger than it looks. The oven top is perfect for heating plates, but the oven itself does not really get very hot or retain heat when finished. The first oven was used so much it finally died after 5 years of constant use.

We got this as a multipurpose toaster/oven because we had an older model that worked great for many years. The convection and regular oven feature work very well due to the multiple heating elements. It saves turning on the oven to heat anything from pizza (small) to partially cooked breads. Very even heat throughout the cooking process. The toaster feature is not as great as we wanted, but still more than acceptable. None of the racks are attached to the door so they must be manually pulled out and get very hot. In addition, if you select a toast level too low, there is a problem getting the toast darker. The problem is due to the unique and clever way that the heater come on. The top and bottom elements alternate which results in a very even toast. Unfortunately, if you restart the toast process, the first heater that comes on might not be the one that you want resulting in one side on the toast getting too done. In spite of that, generally, this is a very good overall appliance.

I had this about 1.5 years; the on/off button was not working. We sent it to the repair shop due to my husband loves this oven. Then, we got a quote that the two replacement parts would cost about $200. We have to give up and to get a new one which will not be this one. Very disappointing.

this the second toster oven by krups I have purchased during the last 10 years. Evidently I must be satisfied.

I spent a lot of time trying to find the right toaster oven. I was tired of getting those cheap ones (e.g. Hamilton Beach) that only last about 6-months and then the trays look like you used them to catch the oil underneath your car after just a couple of months. I love this toaster oven! I call it my little helper because it really is a smaller version of my larger oven except that it cooks much quicker. I have only had it for a week but I have cooked, salmon, red potatoes, chicken and bread. Everything has turned out perfectly! It is very well made and very easy to use. However, I must warn you...the oven gets very hot in the back and on top so do not put it near anything flammable or if you put the unused trays on top pick them up with a oven mitt. I am so pleased with my purchase...money well spent! Thanks Overstock for carrying such quality products at a reasonable price.

I purchased this oven about 2.5 years ago. Although the oven cooks and toasts perfectly it is far from prefect. After about 18 months the toast button started to act up. It would take a couple of trys to get it to cycle on. It became progressivly worse until the toast feature was not working at all. Very disappointing for a piece of equipment that costs so much. All of the other functions worked properly but we use the unit mainly for toast.

This is an excellent toaster oven. Definitely worth the cost. Cleanup is so easy it's phenomenal. I hate to cook, but anything and everything so far that I've baked, toasted or broiled has turned out tender and delicious - even my leftovers are tasting better. Leaves my microwave in the dust!

I gave this as I a gift and my daughter loves it, especially the quick cooking time. Can't speak to durability and workmanship as I just purchased it.

This is a great little toaster/oven. Great versatile oven that keeps your kitchen cool and savesyou from heating up the big oven in hot weather like Florida. Toasts evenly and automaticallyshuts off, no burnt toast. The timer also works well with the oven in shutting it off when thingsare done if you forget. The convection oven heats food evenly with its fan to keep from gettinghot spots in the oven. The defrost I have not tested thouroughly but it is better to use this oventhan the microwave to radiate your food and loose nutrients and possibly get any leakage fromthe microwave exposure to your body. Now I can throw away my big oven and toaster. Thisoven is great for a house hold of two in making dinners. The finish on the trays, grate and ovenare coated for easy soap and water clean up. The crumb tray at the bottom makes this ovenunlike a toaster easy to clean out crumbs from toast by just removing the bottom crumb trayand cleaning with soap and water as well. No messy toaster full of crumbs. The appearance of the black model is very elegant. Oven is very well made and designed. This is one of the best toolsI have ever purchased and well worth the money twice over. I love making home-cooked whole food meals every night in this versatile high tech oven.The broiler is great for fish or garlic bread. Oven is great for potatoes. Drip tray keeps things from running all over with the juices. The only down side is that the fan on the convection oven is a bitnoisy and rattles the trays if you set them on top the oven while cooking.I have make great lobster tails in this oven also with the bake/broil dual method. Enjoy.

I bought this for my mother and I used it when I went to visit her. It was even better than I had anticipated. The look is modern, yet not too fussy or complicated for someone not of the digital age to understand. It cooks beautifully and was shipped promptly. I am very pleased, especially after seeing the same model at a much higher in price in other on- line stores.
