Sturdy
from Pittsburgh, PA,  Dec 28, 2010

This is a 'serious' mixer for 'serious' baking and products. Great for bread, and even making my homemade dog biscuits, because it can handle the THICK ingredients involved. The noise throws you off at first, but you should read directions carefully and bump up the power gradually for best results. I liked my smaller KitchenAid stand mixer I had, but this can make a HUGE batch of cookies at once and not balk at all.

Kitchenaid model 600 stand mixer
from Denver, Colorado,  Jun 30, 2008

Price was fair. Package was damaged on arrival, but contents were OK. Durability expected to be good, since these mixers tend to last for several generations (I have great confidence in brand). First use was a quadruple batch of Italian bread, mixed up and kneaded almost before we knew it -- VERY FAST! We chose this specific model for the high power (575 Watt) motor, obviously why it works so fast. Our old mixer has 275 Watts, took 2-3 times as long to mix. Dough hook is very effective at mixing and kneading. Wire whip gives fabulous results, very quick! We cook for large crowds of 30 - 75 at a time, so it is just about right for us. Would not recommend this to others, as it is just too much mixer for the average homemaker.

Thank you Overstock
from Dubai, UAE,  Sep 30, 2011

Overstock was simply fantastic. I received the item much earlier than expected. Precise and punctual customer service. Price very competitive. Kitchen Aid is a good machine but is weak for making bread. It is not strong enough. For the rest a real piece of art. My only disappointment is that I found a similar Kitchen aid 600, much cheaper than the price I paid, on Overstock.com, just after I received mine ...

Great so far!
 from Davenport,  Sep 27, 2011

I have only used the mixer once since buying it, but I was very satisfied with it. We had to adjust the height of the beater again once we realized it still was too far above the bottom of the bowl, but that is an easy adjustment. Everything else performed as described.

  • How did the color on site compare with the actual product? Very well.
  • Please tell us about the quality of the product. Quality is very good, except that the splatter cover seems a bit delicate. It has been ok so far.
  • How accurate was the on site description of the product? Very accurate.

I am a DUDE and I love it!
from Outside Seattle, WA,  Sep 21, 2011

I am a wannabe kitchen master. This machine handles it all with aplomb and makes me look awesome! Whipping potatos and roasted garlic for a holiday meal for 10 is too easy now. I want to do it too often! Cookie dough is no problem for the Kitchenaid to handle without bogging down and it can even manage shortbread cookies easier than I could have imagined. Controls are easy to use and the speed graduates simply without any jerks or starts. My new toy is a jewel in the kitchen and lets me make others happy without making me exhausted! Thank you to Kitchenaid for a powerful power tool in the kitchen and thank you to Overstock.com for making it so affordable!

  • How did the color on site compare with the actual product? Right on!
  • Please tell us about the quality of the product. This machine does a great job of making even ME look talented!
  • How accurate was the on site description of the product? Too good

Kitchen Aid 6-quart Stand Mixer Pearl Metallic Pro
from Atlanta, Georgia,  Sep 11, 2011

I am a Kitchen Aid user and had to replace my older Kitchen Aid. I order this one and it came very promptly. I followed the instructions about cleaning it and setting it up, this was easy since it was as my former mixer. When I turned the motor on, it acted strangely and did not work. It was obvious there was a problem with it so I did my baking using my hand mixer. I called Kitchen Aid Customer Service and after explaining the problem, to one of the Service representatives, there were no further questions to me with the young woman stating immediately, without my asking, that they would replace it. I had the opportunity to choose a different color which works just as well in my kitchen if not better. The replacement came within about three days with a return label and directions for returning. I have been using my new mixer and it works perfectly as I have come to expect from Kitchen Aid products. The fact that the first one had a problem with the motor is something that can be expected in these times of mass production so that did not bother me. I was most impressed by Kitchen Aid standing by their one year replacement warranty.

KA Mixers not what they used to be
 from VA,  Aug 18, 2011

Years ago, KA mixers were made by ***, and they were the best home mixer you could buy. Now, the company is owned by ***, and although they still are beautiful on the outside, the mechanics are cheap. The price has not gone up much in the last 20 years, and that is really the problem. The real ***, which still looks a lot like the KA, costs well over $1000 for a 5 quart mixer, because they are expensive to build. KAs are relatively inexpensive because the build quality is poor. I own a Pro 600 (purchased elsewhere) and it got bogged down with any bread dough that is under 60% hydration, even a small batch. Bagel dough (my recipe is 55% hydrated)? Forget it. First, it hops around the counter, then if left running, it overheats and makes a terrible noise. And since it seized up on a 1 1/2 pound batch of bagel dough recently, it does not do much at all except look pretty. Less than a year out of warranty. On something I had expected to pass on to my kids, based on the old KA reputation. If you primarily want to make very moist bread doughs, cakes and meringues, you will probably be fine with this machine. If you want to make artisan breads, whole grain loaves, and other heavy doughs, or if you want to make large batches of dough, spend the extra money and get a *** or an *** (yes, it is spelled that way). And if you don't need the large capacity of these bigger machines, find an old used *** Kitchen Aid or get the smaller *** mixer. If you want this for bread, I also suggest you go to thefreshloaf.com to do some research. There are tons of discussions on mixers, and you will see that my experience with KA Pro mixers is sadly, quite common.. For the record, I am ordering the ***.

  • How did the color on site compare with the actual product? Color is not a problem, the mixers are beautiful
  • Please tell us about the quality of the product. Looks durable but it isn't
  • How accurate was the on site description of the product? Comes from KA literature

I love this mixer!
 from CA,  Jul 23, 2011

I love this mixer. I am a bread baker, and this mixer doesn't even break a sweat mixing up two loaves of white bread, or one loaf of whole wheat. The directions say it's normal for the top of the mixer to get hot during use, but so far, (I've only used it three times, but I can't wait to use it this weekend) it has stayed cool. My son burned out the motor of a less powerful KitchenAid mixer using the dough hook, so I wanted a really powerful motor, and so far, this has been just the mixer I wanted.

  • How did the color on site compare with the actual product? Not exactly, but a grey mixer is a grey mixer.
  • Please tell us about the quality of the product. It's nice and heavy, you can tell it's American made.
  • How accurate was the on site description of the product? Accurate.

Awesome mixer!!
from Pittsburgh PA,  Jul 11, 2011

Wait --- was there a time I didn't own this? My husband does more of the cooking - at least he enjoys it more - so this was his decision/purchase, and I was initially hesitant to have something so big taking up so much real estate on the counters, but it is so worth it. We both use it all of the time and I can't imagine not having it now. The only downside to this 6 qt model is that it doesn't work well for very small quantities. The flip side, of course, is that it is able to handle larger quantities. I am REALLY glad to own this, and love the pearl metallic color as well --- I'm sure I would have gotten tired of whatever trendy color I would have picked a few years ago!

Fantastic Gift - Who Wouldn't Want One!
from Westmont, IL,  Jun 1, 2011

This was actually a gift for my mother in law. She had always wanted a KitchenAid Mixer but it had to be the "Professional" model as she is an incredible baker. She also makes her own pastas and grinds meats. This model has the power and the ability to purchase all the attachments for everything she wants to prepare.

This is my second KitchenAid mixer. The first worked brilliantly and now happily resides in my son's kitchen where it is much appreciated but I needed something larger. The Professional 600 6-quart Stand Mixer has met and surpassed all my expectations. Bravo KitchenAid!

What a deal!
from Winnsboro, LA,  Oct 23, 2010

My wife has been going on for years about wanting a stand mixer but never wanted to spend the money. Well, on the last batch of mashed potatoes mixed by our hand mixer I decided enough was enough. I went to KitchenAid's site and nearly ordered this model...for $****!!! Luckily, before I could order I saw an ad for Overstock.com and decided to check the site...I found the exact same model for nearly half the cost! I had to get it. Just got it in and...my wife has gone nuts! The living room is littered with cooking books and she is trying all kinds of new ideas like a banana pudding cheesecake (to die for). I have a feeling my diet is out the window for the next few months!

The Big Mix
from San Jose Ca.,  Jun 16, 2007

This is a product that I have wanted for a long time, and Overstock.com had it for a price that was at least acceptable..........And with the free weekend shipping, the price was even better........it is a very good item to use for many kitchen projects........It came with most of the items that are required for a solid start........it is also large enough to do most anything you would do for family, or guests. Try it, you will love it.........
