The quality and reputation of KitchenAid is further enhanced with this 600Watt 6Quart Pro mixer. The speed in which it mixes is above and beyond anything I've used so far. Coupled with capacity of the bowl, this is ideal for the bakery as I can now make 3 batches of buttercream at one time. Tremendous time saver and worth every penny. Speaking of costs, Overstock's price was the best I could find in my research, add to it a rebate from the manufacturer and I feel as if I've taken something rather than paying for it. Phenomenal all the way around!...

I received this mixer 4 days ago. However, I have used it a lot already and feel I can give an adequate review. I made two double batches of icing, a pound cake, white homemade dough with the dough hook, ice cream mixture with the whip, and creaming the ice cream mixture with the ice cream maker attachment. When making the icing, I did notice that creaming 2 cups of shortening with a few tablespoons of water in this larger bowl took some trial and error. I found on the second batch that if I stir to get it going and then go to speed 2 and then 4 it worked a lot better for mixing as the motor was moving the beater faster. When making the pound cake, I noticed that my mixture was thicker than when I used two other mixtures by other companies. I've always been able to pour my cake batter into the pan, not scoop it out. I had to shake the pans to level out the mixture as it was that thick. However, the cake tasted the same so I'm okay with the change in appearance. I've always made dough with my hands on a wood surface. However, I wanted to see what this mixture would do. My recipe used 8.5 cups of flour and instructed me to add four cups in the mixer. However, I was able to incorporate 6-7 cups as the hook really mixed the ingredients very well. With the dough hook, the highest speed you will use is 2 and this did the job, to my surprise. When I folded the dough on my work surface, it make my kneading job so much easier and faster. I added the other 2+ cups of flour as needed and the dough was fantastic. Also, I used the pouring shield to add my flour on the stir setting and then increased back up to 2nd speed at intervals. This worked great for me and after all flour was incorporated, I removed the shield. I don't think you are supposed to leave it on unless you are using it as it doesn't snap in place but rather sits on the bowl. The best part was I got to use the mixer to make ice cream using the separately purchased ice cream maker attachment. I used the French vanilla ice cream recipe provided in the supplied owner's manual. This was my first time making ice cream and combining hot mixture with cool/room temperature mixture. The instructions were very good and the ice cream taste great. I ate some freshly made and I have yet to taste it frozen. You do have to prepare the ice cream bowl at least 15 hours in advance and you must refrigerate your mixture before you can cream. I made the mixture and froze the bowl the day before use.My only complaint was that the instructions for attaching to the machine are so simple and the diagrams so simplistic that it went completely over my head. I was looking for the piece to snap to the motor head but you just push up and turn it to the angle and when the spinner is attached the two pieces lock. I was expecting it to need more to stay on the mixture. I kept looking for a center hole to slide the unit up. The unit worked just fine as designed and apparently it was me thinking it should attach differently. My comments about the mixture are that I thought the green would be different from what was shown on the site. I thought it was the ugliest appliance I've ever purchased. However, as it sits on the counter the color is growing on me and my husband. I love that the mixture is very easy to clean, just wipe with a damp towel. The mixture is sturdy and blends foods much faster than any mixer I've owned by other companies (this is my first KitchenAid mixer). I don't like that the instructions are not explicit enough on how to place the bowl on the pegs. I just figured it out today and by the next time I use it, it will be another learning curve. Once I figured it out, it made sense but I'd taken that bowl off many times before it became obvious how to attach it. My only other concern is that when I need to scrape the bowl, I have to drop whatever beater/whip/hook is attached; can be annoying sometimes. even though it's easy and quick to do. I definitely recommend you purchase this mixer as I'm a happy cook and new owner of a KitchenAid product.Read More

Green Kitchen Buying Guide
They say the kitchen is the heart of a home, but in many homes, it's also the biggest source of energy waste. Kitchen lighting, refrigeration and cooking consume about 41.5 percent of the total home energy use; add space heating, cooling, and water heating to that total, and you'll see your kitchen is quite the energy hog. Creating an eco-friendly kitchen includes your choice of appliances, but it also goes beyond that; the floors, paint, pots and pans, and other kitchen items you use can make your kitchen eco-friendly as well.
Food Processor Buying Guide
What exactly can you use a food processor for? It can be confusing to know what you're supposed to do with all the different attachments. It seems simpler to just keep using your old blender to do whatever it is a food processor does. A food processor is so much more than just a mixer. When you use your food processor, you'll save time, kitchen space and dishes. Another perk to these food processors is the wide variety of colors and finishes available. Not only will you create amazing food; you'll also get the option of matching your food processor to your picture perfect kitchen. It may seem a bit intimidating at first to have so many options, but once you get to know your food processor, you'll find that it is more than just a vegetable chopper. Don't let your uncertainty keep you from investing in a quality food processor for your kitchen.

How to Care for Wooden Spoons
Wood has long been used for eating utensils, serving utensils and preparation tools. Wooden spoons are a cooking essential and also a beautiful addition to your kitchen and dining experience. On the practical side, these lightweight yet strong utensils are great for tossing salads and serving everything from mashed potatoes to green beans. Wooden spoons are also the perfect preparation tools for use with nonstick pans. Cleaning and general care of wooden spoons differs, however, from the cleaning and care of metal utensils. Wood expands in water, so soaking the spoons in dishwater is generally not advised. Aside from a few basic rules of care, however, it is not difficult to keep wooden spoons looking like new.
