  • Hefty little workhorse!

    I bought this to replace a very lightweight, generic immersion stick blender that I had for almost 20 years. The KitchenAid Contour Silver 5-speed is way more appliance than I needed, but was such a great value, I couldn't resist. I like the neat storage case that keeps the pieces parts organized and handy. I like the built-in versatility of the mixing beaker and chopper attachment (although I have not used the chopper yet). I like that the blending wand and the fact that the different blades come apart for cleaning, although on my previous model, the actual blades came apart to provide a more thorough clean. Although the blades on the Contour Silver are not detachable (only the housing part), this seems to be actually safer, and I can still clean the blades; just don't let gunk dry on it. What makes this a 4-star vs. 5-star product for me is the weight of the thing; it is heavy. The cord is heavy duty (it probably has to be), but is stiff and somewhat cumbersome. It is also too tall to fit under my cabinet on my counter. But because it comes apart, I store the base unit and wand with chopping blade in a kitchen drawer. I just wonder if the wear and tear of constant putting together and taking apart will affect product longevity. I use this daily for my bulletproof coffee, usually on speed 1 setting. I have used the different speeds and can say I was pleasantly surprised at the power of the higher speeds. It does a surprisingly good job of blending a super-juice type smoothie, although tougher greens like baby kale and fiber from pineapple end up a little stringy, not completely liquified, and ice is not completely slushed up. Eh. It's good. Spinach is not a problem at all and overall it does a fabulous job on protein shakes with banana. I have not tried the whisk attachment, not even for scrambled eggs, because the standard blades do a good enough job in that regard. Overall, I am pleased with the performance so far (I have had it for a couple months now and have used it daily) and am only slightly disappointed in the weight and stiffness of the cord, lending to a somewhat unweildy process for daily use. Other than that, this is a winner in my book.
