  • A hunk of wood that doesn't work.

    Aug 30, 2014

OK, so some stuff from Overstock comes via standard UPS. This did not - it came by some carrier that called me and set up a 4 HOUR window that they required me to be home in order for them to deliver the goods. So, first beware that while you MIGHT get a desk that works, you will need to either take half a day off of work, pay someone to stay at your house, or plan to spend your own valuable (yes, Overstock, I find my time valuable even if you respect it as much as the monopolistic utility company does when setting up cable at our new home and requires us to stay home for 4 HOURS to get it done). Second, I received a hunk of wood that in theory looks like nice quality wood, but doesn't work. What does this mean? Well, the pre-drilled holes were not measured correctly on the side panels of the desk (and maybe elsewhere - I stopped at Step #2 on the instruction guide (which so far is easy to follow by the way) and I'm unable to assemble the desk unless I were to call Overstock and...

The design of this little desk is unique. Especially the slots in the back of the desk top, that hold tipsy items. The finish is good and it seems to be fairly sturdy. The instructions were pretty clear... the only problem I had was getting the drawer glides attached to the proper sides. The only downside is that the pressed wood is a little soft and if putting screws in the wrong place, they are difficult to remove without stripping the holes. On the upside everything lined up very well. I think it was a little overpriced for the quality but it is an unusual design and I like the function of it. It did arrive with one corner a little scrunched, but that is the shippers fault. It is in a corner section that you don't notice, when you have taller items in the recessed slots. All in all that about covers it, I hope this info is helpful.

    Nice accent piece

Nice little desk, perfect for what I needed. Not super fond of the pull out keyboard tray. It wants to continually slide back in when I'm typing. You have to scoot your chair back to use the pull out tray and that puts you a bit to far from the desk to write. I'm getting pretty good at leaving the tray at the in position and sliding my hands in to type. Love the look of the desk, would also be a great accent piece even if you didn't use the keyboard tray option.

i purchased this a few months ago to use as a sewing table. so far it is working very well. i think it will continue to work because of the bolts, etc that were used to put it together. i just wonder how the weight and vibrations from the sewing machine might jar it, since it is a childs desk and made for that purpose!!! so far it is working beautifully as a sewing table and it is very comfortable!
