It's designed to reach 425F temperature, so it should be pretty sufficient to sear a steak, yes, provided not exposed to a strong frontal wind (but the grill unit is orientable and the lid can help as a windshield, or even complete cover when closed). overstockcustomercare1 on Mar 16, 2012
