This set is inexpensive and feels like it. The chairs are flimsy and the rails under the seat don't fit together very well. The table is easy to assemble and it does look nice, until the first scratch. The very light wood glaringly contrasts with the very dark finish. Normal writing on paper will leave impressions on the table top. If you're picking this for occasional use in the formal dining room, this might be good. But daily use with kids involved will beat this set up pretty quickly. I've had it for 3 months and the table top is already scarred from normal use...homework, laptops, eating. Wish I had spent a little more to get something that would last longer.
I bought this set a while ago and I think it's GREAT! It was not hard to assemble, and it's sturdy. It's not meant to be a fancy dining room set and I originally bought it for my kitchen dinette, but I like it so much I am moving it to my dining room, which tends to be on the casual side anyway, which is the look and feel I like. I'm thinking of buying a 2nd one to create a really long, or larger square setting that with a tablecloth, would be more formal. I had a lot of family over for the holiday, and it's held up well. It can get scratched (like any wood table can) but for me that just gives in character. One can always buy a table pad or have a cut piece of glass made for the top if scratches are a concern. I really like my table and would recommend it.
