This is an excellent product for the price. I expected it to be a little darker than it was but it works fine for our application. This item is brown but has a bit of a red cast. It is not as dark as it looks in the picture. If you are looking for a dark brown this is not your product. The item is solid and and the weight of the piece allows it to stand well on it own. It was super simple to put together. I was able to assemble it myself (even with the weight) in about 15 minutes. The only tool needed was a power driver.

If the wood wasn't warped, it would have been a beautiful product. Instead, my shelves are slightly crooked and the top is off by about 2 centimeters. I had a friend with an electric drill put it together and I cant imagine having to screw in the 20 or so philip screws manually, it would have been nearly impossible since we had to drill into the wood due to the fact that the wood pieces wont line up correctly. And since it's a freight item, it would cost me more to return the thing! I suggest bypassing this piece of furniture.

The piece looks good. I'm actually using it as a console type shelf, so it's resting on its longer side. I, a 27 year old woman, was able to put this piece together by myself. While I was able to do most of the work with a screwdriver, I did need to use a drill to attach the screws to the single middle shelf to eliminate spaces. As another reviewer mentioned, sticky tabs are provided to cover the screw holes, which does cheapen the look of the piece a little. I was first considering buying a bookshelf that looks like this one for $399. It looked well constructed and didn't have any exposed screw holes on the sides, but I think the one I got on Overstock was a better choice considering the price difference.

The problem is the quality of the boards. With a drill, the screw heads will go all the way through the board. I had to take one of the screws out because it was out of alignment and it ripped the other screw out with it, ruining that section of the bookcase. That was the only problem. It looks beautiful. I just don't know how long it is going to last.

I purchased two of these bookcases to put on either side of my big screen tv and they really look nice! The bookcases are made of very heavy, solid wood, not a laminate or MDF. I was very impressed with the nice finish and the instructions were easy enough, but I tried putting these together by myself to surprise my husband and didn't get very far. Two people are necessary...one to help hold pieces while the other does the assembly. The instructions called for a phillips screwdriver, but we had to go to a power drill with a phillips bit to attach the shelves as the edges had no predrilled holes. The bookcases looked great and have a nice, modern feel with the dark, espresso finish I was after.

The most difficult part of this purchase was watching the very slight deliveryman try to get it off the truck and into my apartment. It was two out of three but the bookcase finally made it in. I was pleasantly surprised with the weight and color or the unit. It has a real natural look. The unit itself is well balanced and solid. I did notice a slight stain odor when the unit was first unpacked. I am using it on a sideward position and it looks great under the window and holds just the right amount of nicknacks as to not look cluttered or overly nostaglic.

Good quality. Great value. Pefect for organizing junk in my sons bedroom.

I am extremely disappointed with this bookshelf. For starters, when I opened the box and took out the items, I immediately realizing it was missing parts. They didn't provide me with enough screws or the back panels they show in the picture (and instructions). And for one reviewer who mentioned the parts being numbered, mine weren't. It wasn't hard to figure out, but still. They also showed some of the shelves (the cube shelves) in the instructions as already put together, but mine weren't. Then, as I started to assembly the shelf, I quickly realized a problem. The quality on this product is very poor. The grooves that you slide the shelves into don't line up correctly. I took it apart and retried several times to insure it wasn't me, but it's definitely this shelf. Toward the end of assembling, I couldn't even get the shelves in because they were too tall for where they needed to go. As a result, when it was completely put together, after some serious manipulating, the entire shelf leans and does not stand up on its own. I had to get really creative to make it work, since it would cost far too much to return. Very disappointing!! Save your money!!!

This was a great piece to add to my living room. It really allows for a more modern feel in the room. It was incredibly heavy in the package when it was delivered. It was left at my front door and my female petite self could hardly bring it through the door. Once it was in, I pulled it out of the box and it was a snap to put together. I did it in about 1 hour by myself. In regards to the sticker style screw covers, I have yet to have even my most critcal and particular person (my mother) mention anything about them. I would definitely recommend it to a friend and continue ordering from overstock.com.

I actually was lucky to get this piece as a birthday present. It weighs a ton and was delivered within one week to date of being ordered. Not sure what happened to the 3 days delivery but..... Here is the scoop guys if you are like me PAY SOMEONE TO PUT THIS TOGETHER so worth it. Truly takes approx 1 hour the good news is that each piece is numbered so if you are savy may be easy for you. However, it is an amazing piece it looks just like the photo and I recommend it highly. The only set back was that there were a few scratches and digs in the wood but not worth returning. Get a furniture stick it works magic. I love it and it is an excellent addition to my home. Well done Overstock.

Looks good when finished, but not easy to put together

You know when someone asks you to give three words that best describe something? Well, these are my three words. My carpenter put them together for me and even he had to admit they were great quality. How much did you pay for them? , he asked me. Then he asked me to write down the website for his wife. The style of these decorative cases (I hesitate to call them bookcases) with its modern lines, rich color, and traditional wood grain perfectly complement our bedroom suite. They encase a 58" plasma tv and tastefully contain our electronic equipment, my husband's collection of carousel horses, and my favorite reads. I also bedecked a few of the compartments with leather "boxes" to contain various paraphenalia, including DVDs and pocket junk. I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

The book case is okay. Not quite what we expected. More like something you would buy at a common retail store or home emprovement store only more expensive. Think we would have been better of buying one at a local furniture store. Quailty is okay but for the price I think we could have gotten one that is held together by other that 1 1/2 small wood screws that are counter sunk with cheap little stickers to cover the holes. The joints were loose and we used wood glue even though the directions didnt specify the need for it. I find that a little odd as there are only two screws holding each piece together. It looks good, however, we move every four years so we shall see how well it holds up. Bottom line: I think we could have gotten a better quality product for our money.

I purchased 2 bookshelves to go on either side of the Axium entertainment center. The 3 pieces together look very good and ground my large wall. The bookshelves have a unique design that display my items like a straight shelving unit could not. I would recommend.

The bookcase is well made. It is very sturdy and was very heavy. The delivery man actually asked my boyfriend to help him carry it inside. The color of the bookshelf in the picture is very accurate. It is very dark brown, one could mistake it as black from across the room. It was easy to put together and it came with little stickers the exact same color as the wood to put over all the screw holes.

The piece was great, although it arrived slightly damaged. Not bad enough to reject it, but slightly banged up.

Compared to other purchases made from this site. this product did not measure up. The product came damaged. requiring some repair & the material was not of expected quality. My complaint was handled in timely fashion.

Much better than we hoped. The wood is beautiful. easy to put together. we're using it in our kitchen as a wine rack...liquor bar etc. Looks really good!

This product is very easy to assemble. Unfortunately all assembly uses screws (including places where wooden pegs would be ideal. This leaves an abnormally large number of holes on the exposed surfaces. They provide plastic covers (they are really just stickers) to cover the holes The unit looks good from 5-7 feet away, but when you get any closer it is apparent that the joints do not meet tightly. The unfinished edges are blond wood, so any failure of the joints to mesh perfectly is obvious. The surface is also easilty damaged.

This bookcase is very attractive and sturdy. It fits perfectly and I like that some of the compartments have solid backs while others are open. The finish is a very nice dark wood tone. It assembled very easily, it only took a phillips head screwdriver; instructions were complete; it took my husband about an hour without a helper.
