I was looking for a queen bed that had some character. The picture of this bed made it look like there were two tones (espresso frame and a greenish tint to the headboard and footboard). The entire bedframe is a dark espresso color. It came in 3 boxes and is solidly built from solid wood, not MDF. I can't stand beds and bedframes which are rickety but this one is not. I wasn't planning on using a box spring, but this bed needs one (at least 5" thick). I don't know why, but I wasn't thinking I was going to need one. Perhaps because of all the platform beds I had been looking at before this one. I had a nice memory foam mattress but had to buy an inexpensive box spring the next day before I could set it up. The bed is quite imposing in the room with its chucky frame. The headboard and the footboard is at least 6" thick. The panels have a rustic and kind of rough finish, but is not so rough that I'd be worried too much about splinters. If dressed up right, this bed can be a bold centerpiece in any bedroom.
