I really wanted to like this sofa. And if this review was based on style alone, I probably would have given it 5 stars. But sadly, since receiving this sofa, I have had horrible headaches, dizziness, coughing, itchy eyes... all things you don't expect to experience when you're relaxing in your home! Also, my entire living room smells of chemicals. I feel like I'm walking into a chemical cloud every time I enter it. I looked up about getting sick from furniture, and apparently I'm not alone. Beware of furniture that has plywood in it, as this sofa does. Most of the time, plywood contains formaldehyde, which I believe is one of the chemicals I'm reacting to. Now I have to figure out how to send it back! If you're feeling hesitant about this product, I would say skip it, whether you're sensitive to these chemicals or not. Just knowing they're there would be enough to me! There are plenty of options out there that are comparable in price and are made of all wood and other better materials. Wish I researched more before!
I agree with other reviewers that there is a smell. I've had the couch for a few days now and either I've gotten use to it or it has dissipated. I hardly smell it at all when I enter my apartment now. It was very easy to put together. I was able to do it by myself in about an hour and a half. The couch arrives in 2 huge boxes. Each box is about 50 pounds so they aren't really heavy just big and awkward. I did have a friend help me bring them upstairs from the vestibule where UPS delivered them. Speaking of UPS, that was kind of inconvenient. Usually companies use a 3rd party freight company for over-sized items. The advantage of that is that they call you and set up a delivery time. UPS does not. I could only take a half-day on the day the couch was to arrive and I was worried that if I missed the driver than he would leave a missed delivery slip and I'd have to reschedule and do it all over the next day. I missed him by 1/2 an hour, but because my building has a vestibule he was able to leave the boxes there. It all worked out, but I don't know if I would have ordered from Overstock if I had known. The couch is beautiful, it is very firm though. I imagine that the cushions will soften with wear. I didn't notice if the construction of the couch was mentioned in the details, but know that the support for the seat is just straps, not springs. Because of this I suspect that they will get saggy over time shortening this couch's lifetime. I'm okay with that. I will probably be ready for an upgrade by then. Overall a great couch for the price.
