I was a bit disappointed when I received these knives. First, I thought I was buying a fine set of knives from a renowned German knife manufacturer... but low and behold, what did I find on the set of knives I received? MADE IN CHINA. Second, the knives only had the final grind done on them... never sharpened, and I can tell this by the slight tell-tale tang you could feel when running your finger off and away on the blade edge. However, they are good steel, and after 45 minutes of sharpening them all up, I could hear my missus humming with joy at being able to cut a tomato slice as thin as a piece of paper. All in all, these knives are a quality product, but for the price for this quality they should have been manufactured in Germany and come with an initial sharpen on them. Once properly sharpened, they hold a very keen edge even through the hardest of ingredients. I would buy them again.

The knives are incredibly cheap and light. The blade bends. The handle is cheap plastic. Very disappointed. I opened the box, took out one knife to inspect, put it back sealed it up and sent it back to Overstock. I thought Henckels would make something half way decent, but they didn't

I ordered these knives for our condo in Florida. Shopping with Overstock to supply this condo has saved us so much "running around time" . . . love it! The knives are perfect for our needs. My husband and I both cook and wanted a decent set of knives. They are not as "top of the line" as our cooking knives at home but well worth the money and fit the need.

These kniives are very nice quality for the price and you can't go wrong with the Henckel brand name. They are 100% better than my old knives. Makes such a difference in the kitchen to own a great set of knives.

Based on the previous reviews, these are exactly as I expected. As others have stated, they are made in China, so if that is a big deal to you, don't order. They also don't come with shears, but those can be found easily, and the hole is already there for them. All in all, I feel these are a great value.

These knives are solid quality and I have no complaints. They are well worth the price.

OK, these aren't the top of the line Henckels - knife snobs and professional chef's will probably turn up their noses and sniff. But for the vast majority of us who just want a set of knifes that will stay sharp and is a cut above the standard motley assortment of supermarket knifes we have in a kitchen drawer, this is an *awesome* deal.

The knives are sharp and work well. Though they aren't forged steel, they are still sturdy and I look forward to using them for many years. The price on Overstock was the best on the internet and although the website said shipping was 5-10 days, I received the knives 2 days later. The bread knife is my favorite.

Very disappointing. I was really wanting to return them but it was more trouble than it was worth. I've since bought another set off of XXXX and they turned out to be the real deal.

Let's set the record straight... Llike most designers, consumer products also have "levels of the brand". In this case, yes, these knives are made in China, but for the price and for how most people use knives, this set will suffice. To that, I add - most people that complain about prices on Overstock seem to overlook the deals they are getting and forget to take into account these factors. I guess it's like the equivalent of buying a Porsche Boxster vs. a Porsche 911 - you could pay hundreds of dollars for a German-made Henckels set, but really, would you need to? I had a MIchael Graves knife set for Target that, after seven years, still worked fine. So, unless you don't take care of things (not counting the usual expected defect here or there), these knives will last many years. That being said, I had to do some chopping as I was making homemade guacamole; these knives couldn't have performed better. The thin blades sliced through everything effortlessly. The weight is balanced and as a petite woman, I had no problems prepping with them. The Santoku knife is clearly my favorite - there is a small and large one, respectively. On a final note, I hand-wash all my knifes. I did put these in the dishwasher upon first opening - for a gentle wash. However, as many other posters suggested, hand-washing is the only way to go.

Bought this set for my summer house. It is a great set! I do notice the difference from the "chef's set" that I have in my home. But over all, I am really pleased with this set. I would buy it again.

It's so nice to cook with good knives. Henckles are amomg the best.

I purchased my last set of knives 25 years ago and a few of them were missing. When it came time to have them sharpened and consider replacing the missing ones, I realized I could buy a new set more easily. I am very impressed with the new design by J.A. Henckels. in some ways not much has changed, but the newer knives added to the set match more to the needs of cooks today. Thank you!

these knives are so great! i don't know how they compare to ones that cost big bucks, since i've never handled those, but these get the job done, look elegant, feel sturdy, and cut great! i'm really happy i got them... they make cooking much more enjoyable.

Nice collection of knives. Has everything you could need. Nice block for storage. Sharp, attractive. Not as heavy as one would expect for this brand.
