  • Solid desk for my small home office

I bought this desk in black for my small home office. I was looking for something that was light and airy but also solid since it's such a small room. This fit the bill in terms of size, style and function. I love how it folds in on itself - perfect since my office is tiny and when we have guests over, the futon will be pulled out and the desk can fold against the wall. Assembly was fairly easy - until the last step to assemble the swivel part. A couple of the screws were just a hair too long and poked through the top of the desk. I was able to hammer down the point and touch up with some furniture paint, but just something to be aware of - don't drill too deep! Also, the swivel took a few attempts before I was able to get the pieces to feel securely tightened. Once in place, I am happy with the final product.

  • Just as shown

This does just what I wanted. I use it as a sewing table, b/c the storage underneath is perfect. I LOVE it and my boyfriend is totally jealous of it. He got a free table and offered it to me. I told him I was waiting to get this thing, showed him, and he was like, "yeah, it's way better." and it was when I got it too. I was able to put it together myself, although a couple parts were tricky. I didn't find the instructions difficult. It looks great, my only complaint is sometimes when I slide out the shelf, the stand piece slides a little too - and scrapes the hardwood. I'm getting a sanding block and some holders this weekend so this doesn't happen any more. Other than that, I love it. Please note, because it has to have a little leeway when you pivot the shelf, you can't put it flush in a corner. It has to have a little extra room.

  • Mostly made of MDF

Disappointed - it can be quite difficult to ascertain the construction materials of furniture sold online, and despite my best efforts to avoid MDF, I was fooled by this product's description touting a 'solid rubberwood frame with veneers" but no mention of MDF. There are a few pieces of actual wood, though with some odd seams in them. At least 85% of this product by weight, however, is manufactured wood. It weighs a ton and the solid wood parts that are attached to the MDF don't seem particularly sturdy. I can't comment on assembly as I have put it back in the box for return.

  • Love Love Love

I really like the functionality of this desk. I have a small condo and the desk works perfect, it has a modern edge to it but functional. There was only one screw that made it difficult to put together, it was the main one too, but we got together!

  • Don't be a statistic

I always read the reviews before I buy something. And there's always that one person that has the most ridiculous horror story with assembling pieces and constantly getting wrong parts, over and over and over again, until it eventually just ends up a disassembled mess that they burn along with their dreams of ever having a workstation. I always laughed at these people. Disdainfully. You either have exceptionally bad luck or you're a moron that can't put a desk together. Karma. I got my desk. Step one: piece of cake. Next. Step two. I have had so much contact with Overstock, I have received so many pieces, each of them defective in it's own unique way. I finally was issued a partial refund if I just drilled my own holes, which I happily accepted. Step three. Another defective piece. "Oh, Overstock sent me plenty of replacement parts that I didn't even request," I cackled. Nope. All defective. I eventually disassembled Step Two with a heavy heart, packed up the pieces, and called to schedule a UPS pick up. Overstock has won. I have learned humility. Don't be a statistic. PS: and don't buy furniture at Overstock.

  • Quick fix required for quality control issue

Assembly was in line with my expectations, the use of a cordless drill expedited the process for sure. Unfortunately, the quality control over attachment of the desk top to the frame was clearly lacking as the factory had stripped out 5 screws. Thus one end and half of one side of the long side of the top of the desk was not attached to the frame. Fortunately, it was a quick fix of drilling new holes a couple inches from the old ones and reusing the existing screws. I do like the desk as it provides me just what I was looking for - limited use of space when not in use and when in use the ability to rotate the desk away from the wall and out where I can work looking out a double window. The contrast of the off white shelves and mahogony finished desk provides a good balance of interest in the piece.

  • Poor quality for the price

I'm disappointed in this desk--I expected better quality for the price. The holes for the screws that hold the legs onto the tabletop were too large, which resulted in very wobbly legs (fortunately, we were able to tighten them up by using our own mollys). Also, the nails on the glides that go on the bottom of the unit are too long, which caused at least one of them to poke through the laminate. Additionally, we were missing two of the screws required for complete assembly. Finally, as one other review noted, the bookcase portion is MDF (or laminate over particle board), not genuine wood as the description might lead you to believe. Overall, I'd say the desk is a great concept, but the execution is sorely lacking. I would not buy this desk again, and I would not recommend it to a friend.

  • No directions, not all the parts included, & more

Where to begin? The desk came right on time. When we opened it, we saw the directions were cryptic. This isn't our first rodeo with this type of furniture, so we were sure we'd be able to figure it out. Not only are the directions cryptic, but the pieces aren't labeled, which adds a whole other level of drama to this desk. They didn't include all the screws needed, so we had to take a trip to ******. The last set of directions is so crazy we nearly threw out the desk! It truly takes 3-4 people for the last step. Insane. I would NEVER buy this desk again. Ever ever ever.

Hi, I am putting this into my kids play house so space is very limited. I see the H and W of the desk and the depth is 18 in. Is that the depth for the shelf too? Also you indicated below an overall L of desk with ext is 74", is that when put into a horizontal position instead of an "L"? If so, what does the shelf add to the Length of the desk when put into the L position - 47 + ?. Basically I am looking for the over L/Width when desk is the L position. Thanks, uschye on Apr 21, 2014
