I should have read all of the customer reviews before purchasing this can. It is a bit flimsy for the price. The problem is the hinge of the lid made of cheap plastic. It broke just in just 3 months. You have to buy special bags in order to fit the uncommon height (too tall for most bags) of the trash can. Not worth the money.

I used it for 5 months and noticed a crack develop on the door flap. Eventually the crack gave way and the gear attached to the the door broke apart and got lost in the trash.Now I have trash can that cannot open by itself and my guests have to figure out how to and where to open the trash lid. I called the manufacturer for a replacement door and they came back saying that they charge the door $50.00. That was kind of crazy for a manufacturer design defective.I will not buy this product due to lack of after-sale service.

Package has arrived yesterday w/ clean & nice condition. The trash can is well-protected inside of box. The finishing of steel seems very smooth and beautiful. It¿s easy to set up, too. It¿s the perfect size in the kitchen for 5~6 member family. I am going to buy couple more as Christmas gift this year. It¿s really a GREAT BUY. I would recommend to everyone!!

We got this can for about two months. When we first set it up, the plastic "ring" that you use to hold the trash bag in place was really difficult to set up and put the bag on. So we finally just stopped using it and have the bag edges showing outside the can. We change the bag just about everyday, so having to deal with the bag holder "ring" wasn't worth the trouble. Other than that, it was great until it broke.The sensor was a little too sensitive, so you would have to walk at least a foot away around it in order to not have it open the can. Then it broke after just two months. The lid connector has this tiny little gear mechanism that works with another tiny gear inside the collar of the lid that opens the lid flap. The tiny gear broke off from inside the lid part and fell into the trash. We tried to use superglue to reattach the gear, but that also popped off after just one try. I guess you need to really make the gears line up exact, otherwise it just doesn't work. We are disappointed that the mechanism to open and close the lid is so weak. It has been two days but we are still waiting for the manufacturer to return our call.

We had been looking for a new SS trash can for our kitchen. for weeks. Our old one was fine but you nhad to step on the pedal to open and somtimes the lid would hit the wall. It was about 27 inches high but did not hold much. Everything we saw was $80 to $150 and just didn't seem to be very good quality. We ordered this unit and it is absolutely perfect. We couldn't be happier, and it came with a great price and great service from overstock. Thanks, Larry

Not only did the original one I bought come as a different model, but once I got the correct one, it appeared to be refurbished. The IR portion works great, but it rarely opens all the way. Gets quite frustrating. Additionally, the model I received was dirty as if it had been previously used. Overstock took care of us with a small credit to our account, but I would never buy another trashcan like this one. Stick with a metallic/stainless steel foot pedal trash can. NOT WORTH THE PRICE.

This trash can is great. I got used to it within 20 minutes. No more fooling around opening the lid on my old plastic can only to have it fall off. Then once you've put it back on and closed it, you have mess all over your hands and the lid. This can also holds the trash bags real snug. I should have bought one of these years ago.Overstock, you've done it again. Thanks.

This trash can works exactly as described. It does NOT open unnecessarily every time you pass by it, and gives you enough time to clean off a plate or drop in some kitchen waste without closing too early. And you can't beat Overstock's price. An excellent product.

After having purchased, waited to give it a chance to prove itself; we are very satisfied (everyone thinks it's cool).

The delivery service was within the same I purchased the trash can and that's so great. I like the fact that I don't need to throw the trash for like 2 days and don't have to lift a finger to open the trash, it automatically opens for me. I've seen something similar but it was twice the price and a lot smaller, I'm glad I found a great deal.

We loved this product for three months - and then it would not work. It would have been wonderful if it had worked. We tried everything, including new batteries, but it just died on us. It looks great and worked great for three months. We lost our money and hope you have a better result.

I've had 2 of these, and just as several other reviewers have noted, the lid is prone to break. The first lid stopped going up after a few months, so I returned it back and exchanged it. The 2nd one worked fine for a while, but became very erratic. It would open, and then slowly drift back to closed instead of staying open. It would also make grinding sound as the lid gear was slipping. Finally, the gear for the lid completely broke off from the rest of the lid, and now the unit doesn't work at all. It's a great idea in general, but the quality is lacking. I'd gladly pay twice the price for a product that would last. But not this trash can again.

This trash can is too tall for a standard size 13 gallon trash bag. The bag cannot reach the bottom of the trash can and when you put in something heavy it would drag the bag along with it. Also, the lid opens little too slow so that sometimes things spills before going into the can. I won't recommend this trash can.

It worked great for a few weeks. After that I experienced the same problem that many others here have. The lid stays open. When the close button is pressed, the lid closes and opens back again after a second for no reason. And it simply stays open even if there's nothing around it. Changing batteries didn't help. I closed it and shut it off for a day. Then it worked well for an hour or so before malfunctioning again. I got no service from the maker. Left 4 voicemails without a reply. I wanted to return this but the return postage would cost as much as $30. Beware!

We use a large, 30 gallon bag in our kitchen trash, so wanted the largest container we could find -- with a bit of a domed lid, if possible --so when it's full, the lid is not touched by trash. Even a stainless trash can is ridiculously expensive, so to find one well under $100 that also OPENS THE LID for you, is rare thing. You can shut off the auto-opening, or push a button to just leave the lid up, or leave it down. We had to experiment with placement a bit so ours didn't open every time we passed it, but a little angle to the side took care of that. It is wonderful not to have to mess with the lid on a can when both hands are full of dripping egg shells or similar messy trash -- and you have a lid to cover any odors until trash day. This is one of my favorite Overstock buys, a great value, arrived quickly, and easy to set up -- just have D batteries on hand. Oh, and it's very entertaining when you are changing bags, the lid is on the floor and your dog walks by. The lid will open and the dog will freak out! Funny! DEFINITELY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED item!

I thought this was a terrific idea. I spent almost $100 on mine. It didn't even last a year! Now it barely works; I have to use the "open" and "close" buttons, and they don't work either. It's not a very well made or durable product!

I had a touchless trash can similar to this one before and loved it --- it lasted about 2 years and so I bought this one for it's replacement. It doesn't work as well as the last one I bought - the Infared doesn't seem to work as well as it should. It takes a couple of sweeps over it for the top to open - it seems to have too much of a delay. The can is big - so you need to buy extra heavy bags or they'll rip when you try to take them out when they're full. Would I buy it again? Probably not. I'd try a different brand and get a little smaller can.

It works really well, sensor is good. The trashbag depending on how full you fill it can tend to catch a little on the lip of the can when you pull it out.

This is one of the best products I have bought from Overstock. I have an elderly father who needs a lot of attention and this saves me having to wash my hands each time I go to the trash can, because of touching the trash can. My little niece loves it also, because she thinks it is magic.

Great can, does go thru batteries like crazy. The infared mechanism is sensitive, opens the lid anytime someone walks anywhere near the trashcan so uses batteries like water. Can be easily opened by hand as well, nice big square opening, no more getting trash on the sides of the lid. Overall, a very good buy.
