But for the price you can't beat it....This thing tells me the past two days of usage. It's amazing. I can accurately determine what my unit is costing me each month. Also, it has a compressor protect on it, so if you flip from A/C to off and back to A/C, it waits 4 minutes before it starts the compressor to avoid short cycling it. The wiring is a pain though. I can verify this replaced an old Honeywell mechanical thermostat on a 20 year old York 3 ton with emergency heat strips, dual zone.

The thermostat works great, but the installation is not as simple as it seems. Using the Hunter to replace a Honeywell was not a simple task... about half the existing wires did not match up with the codes on the new thermostat. After much 'trial and error', and a great deal of fear that my ex husband was going to blow up my furnace, it worked. Overall a nice unit at a good price, but the installation is probably best left to a heating and cooling expert!

I have a Trane single stage unit with a variable fan. The thermostat would make the fan rev up and almost stop numerous times before cutting off instead of a gradual slow down. It also kept placing the unit in emergency heat even though the outside and inside temperatures were above 40 degrees. Hunter tech. support is not end user friendly and I could not find out if this thermostat is designed for my heat pump. Therefore, I do not know if the thermostat is defective or it is not designed to be used with my heat pump. I reinstalled my old thermostat and everything is working properly.The unit appeared new and came in a sealed package. The good things about the unit are the features: usage data( nornmal heat and emergency heat time), easy to program and gives you 4 times to automatically change temperature setting each day,etc. but no backlight. I purchased the extended warranty and am working on returning the unit.

This product works with a two stage heatpump, at a price that can't be beat.

we love this thermostat, we're able to set the right temps for day and night. Sure saves on the electric bill when you don't have to keep changing the thermostat. Setting it a few degrees lower at night and when we're not at home, set it an hour or so before we get home to warm up or cool down.

I am really enjoying the thermostat. It was easy to program and works like a champ!
