I actually cut out the space in a wall between the studs and countersunk the cabinet into the wall and screwed the cabinet into the studs in the wall. I then added door trim to pretty up the cut edges of the wall seams. It turned out great with minimal effort. I would rather have the earring mounts of thinner material as a lot of my smaller earrings dont fit over the wood strip except for larger hoops. Oh, I added a led puck lite on the top of inside cabinet that is motion sensored so when I open the cabinrt, I have light. I installed yhe cabinet behinf my bathroom door and i really like the almost-full view mirroe on the door. It's agreat cabinet for the price and a good size. Pretty good materials for the price (mdf) but its out of the way and doesnt receive a lot of bangs or "traffic: so solid wood wasnt a priority. Locks well, unlocks easily. Great item. Would definitely buy again. Recommend.

I was looking for an "open shelved style" media/fireplace combo. This unit was a nice surprise! You can easily pair it with open shelved bookcases on either side to create an entire wall system, or let it stand alone. Since we live in Florida, and our weather might allow for a dozen fires a year, I wanted to just flip a switch and not mess with gel, or gas fireplaces. This is perfect for our needs since the media unit looks very nice (for mdf) on its own. We love it and the grandkids love turning it on to make the house cozy. Fake is fake, but once you accept that it is really nice looking for the price. We haven't used the heating unit yet but it was amazingly quiet when we tested it, and it will take the chill off just fine. I was pleasantly surprised, and waited for more reviews before buying, but I'm very glad we got it!

The description of this chest said "Antique Red", and the picture showed a red chest. There is nothing red about this thin, flimsy chest. Very dissatisfied.

This is a gorgeous mirror, and seems very high quality. And heavy! I wondered how such a delicate looking mirror could survive shipping all the way from China, and the answer seems to be...it can't. At least on the two tries I have experienced. The first mirror had damage to the mounting surface, which appears to be MDF or particle board. It was cracked and smashed up a bit, but strangely there was no damage whatsoever to the glass. The second one has a tiny cracked off piece on one of the small glass pieces, but the mounting surface is perfect. Overstock cheerfully refunded us our money on the first one, and we have decided to keep the second one because the damage is not noticeable the way our mirror will be hung. But the packing is inadequate for the journey this mirror has to take, so inspect it carefully! I rated it five stars because it is that nice, even though they had damage. I could have given it a third try, but didn't want to have another huge mirror sitting in my house waiting for FedEx to come and inspect.

This cabinet is exactly what I had been wanting to organize my jewelry and I quite like that it has a mirror on the inside as well as the out, but I doubt it will hold up to repeated use. When I unpackaged it, the screws were already stripped out of the MDF frame. I fixed these with wood glue instead of trying to ship it back, but if I had it to do over again, I'd order a more expensive product made from better materials.

its beautiful! i would not recommend this for a childs room simply because it is delicate and fragile! a furniture art piece, very lovely and quite large. can easily store 3-4 large quilts/ blankets, etc.

This trunk is lovely to look at, but it is so flimsy that I'm not even sure it'll hold up to seasonal sweater storage like I planned. I am actually afraid that the weight of winter clothing would be too much! It might be great for something light and airy- tissue paper or your gift bow collection- but this is a flimsy, flimsy piece.

This is very pretty, but mine came with a scratch on the front--so I am disappointed. I hope customer service issues a credit or agrees to replace.

this trunk was a gift and I absolutely love it. It is true to size and looks exactly what it looked like in the picture. I am using it for a decorative end table.

Pros: Simple, quick assembly - 15 minutes. Reasonably sturdy Attractive from a distance Cons: Poor quality materials VIsible mounting hardware and assembly hardware Shiny, pebble-textured plastic laminate finish The particle board construction is not as good as the MDF used in other products available from Overstock, the hanging hardware is visible and prevents flush mounting, and the assembly hardware is visible unless covered with the included flimsy plastic caps. (If you decide on getting the shelves, I would recommend painting over the screw heads with brown nail varnish instead.) The Laminate Intersecting Wall Shelf, Item #: 15150414, is a better choice for quality of materials and finish, and for its recessed mounting brackets.

I have give three time capsule baby showers and have always gotten the trunks at xxxxxxx. Those trunks were fine, but don't hold a candle to these. The three trunks came nested and in perfect shape. They are so nice and seem like they will last the 18 years they need to before little junior opens his treasure chest. I do feel fortunate to have found these beautiful trunks. I'm becoming an Overstock.com fan. My kids and grandkids, even though they are older now, want their birthdays this year to be time capsules!

I am pleased with the product based on it's great value. It is also very functional and serve's it purpose by storing my 7 month old boy's toys in an increasingly cluttered apartment. Also, it looks great and adds character to the space. My only complaint would be the odor that is present coming out of the box. I had read about it on other reviews, but it is something worth sacrificing for the overall value and resourcefulness of this chest.

My wife is happy with the electric firebox portion as it looks nice and heats well. The thermostat controls, remote control, and adjustable flame & embers brightness levels are cool. But the color is more nutmeg / cherry than the "mahogany" label and pictures--while the surface finish is nice and smooth, it is a birghter color than the pictures show and than the label "mahogany implies. Also, the MDF materials are inferior in my opinion and are easily split. For example, I have several stripped screws and split ends in mine, the "wood" just easily giving way. With it all assembled, it looks good and is sturdy enough as long as you don't move it much.

Workmanship is pretty bad on this product. The screws for the butterfly hinges (outside) are the wrong kind so they aren't flush with the hardware. There's only one folding hinge (inside), an indication of cutting corners. The entire unit feels flimsy; the trunk will twist with the lid open. The lock did not come with a key. Because of how thin the panels are, the interior volume is quite decent. As for the aesthetic, it does look nice. This chest should not be priced at more than $75.

Although I loved the chest, it looked wonderful in my husband's man's room, it was made of warped wood and would not sit evenly on the floor and the lid did not sit on the trunk due to the warped wood. Sadly the trunk fit my needs but I will not order another one as I do not want to take the chance to receive another one with the same issues. I will say that once I contacted Overstocked they immediately sent me a return label for me to send it back and once they received it back I did get a refund.

I like the Chest, but I bought it for a coffee table and it is too small. I put it in my bedroom at my condo to put my bags on. It looks nice and serves as decoration to fill up the room. I would not purchase again if given the option to view it first.

The first one I ordered came broken. The wood is very thin and the legs can be easily broken. Also, the size from pictures on the website is deceiving, it is much smaller than it appears.

this was easy to put together and holds all my jewelry with room to spare. It's nice to be able to see all of my jewelry so I remember what I have. (getting older is tough!) The only reason I gave it 4 stars is it is made from MDF not wood but if it were it would likley cost at least double the price

The function and design of this product is good... definitely is great in organizing my jewelry. However, the materials which it is made from is cheap. Within hours of hanging it up, the finish is already stripping in areas (poorly painted MDF board). The closet door is already separating where it is miterd and put together. I have decided to keep it just because it is a hassel to return it, but I probably have to paint it soon. If your familiar with that store that sells the prefab low quality stuff, this is how many times worse in quality.
Traditionally, a young and newly married couple would receive a hope chest, often made of cedar, filled with the items they needed to establish their home together, such as linens, crockery and oil lamps. In fact, the Amish originally called this customary gift a wedding chest. Today, these trunks and chests are often given to young women when they leave home. Mothers fill this storage chest with both practical and sentimental items, including heirlooms and necessities for college or marriage. Beginning the cedar chest tradition in your own home just takes a little bit of time. The following tips will help you fill a hope chest for your own children.
It's not unusual for bookshelves to incorporate multiple materials for different features. If you haven't decided on wood, wood products, metal or glass bookshelves, look at their relative strengths and weaknesses. Look below to learn the best bookshelf materials. Wood: "Solid wood" is a common term for furniture made from lumber planks. Beware of making assumptions based on labels like "hardwood" and "softwood." Hardwoods are derived from deciduous trees and softwoods from coniferous trees; the terms don't connote their relative strengths. Balsa is a hardwood even though it is very soft, just as Douglas fir is a softwood even though it is very hard. They all make excellent, classic stock material for bookcases. Generally, harder woods are the heavier and more resistant to scratches. Still, softer woods, if treated correctly, will keep just as well as harder woods. Plywood: Made by stacking thin sheets -- "plies" -- of lumber and gluing them under pressure, plywood features grains that alternate direction for strength. Several grades are available, of differing cost. Top and bottom plies can be high-quality woods to create the appearance of fine woods, but edge veneer or molding is needed to complete the illusion. Particleboard: Wood chips glued together carry a much lower price tag than solid wood, and particleboard is denser and more uniform. It's a great choice when cost is the primary consideration. Bookshelves crafted from veneered composite boards can look and feel as good as real wood. MDF: Wood fibers, tiny chips and sawdust collected and glued into sheets form medium-density fiberboard (MDF). Low-cost MDF makes an excellent base for veneers; plus, its strength is consistent and it shapes well. Metal: There's a reason most library bookshelves are made from metal: Metal bookcases are resistant to moisture and fungus, their low-friction shelves are easier on books' bindings and metal's strength-to-weight ratio can't be beat. Their cost usually comes in below any other material. Glass: Glass bookshelves weigh more than other types, but if you plan on assembling your bookshelves only once, the style points can be well worth it. Tempered glass shelves (in wood or metal uprights, called "standards") give your home an unbeatable contemporary feel, and glass bookcases' smooth, transparent surfaces add brilliant levity to a decorating piece that might otherwise be notably opaque and heavy.
