How do I clean this rug? The pile is so thick I can't use my little green machine.
I ordered this on Sunday. It was supposed to arrive on Friday, but came early on a Tuesday. It is much more beautiful and higher quality than imagined. Thick loops of plush wool. Don't need a carpet pad under it--as it has a grippy lining. Sorry to gush so much. But like the earlier reviewer said very West Elmish and perfect for a modern home....

This is the fifth rug we've tried for our living room (the first from Ostock), and luckily, we only actually purchased and had to return one of the 4 (the other 3 were loaners from a local rug store). So it looks like fifth time's the charm! This rug is beautiful in an organic, modern way. It's neutral enough to work with our decor which is a mix of big, bold modern art, and more earthy elements. The orangy-ness that appeared on our computer screen in the first pic is not accurate; this rug is more grey, charcoal, ivory and tan, which we were thrilled about. BIG soft wool loops, bigger than we expected. It's unique, I've not seen one like it before in person. It reminds me of similar rugs at West Elm, but I believe better quality, and possibly ultimately less money, if you get it during a sale, and have a coupon on top of that. Plus shipping is very inexpensive, or in my case, being a Club O member, free. There's no free shipping with West Elm, and they usually charge you a surcharge for large items like rugs! Very satisfied customer.Read More
I bought this rug based on the reviews here. The good points: The photo showing this rug is hugely inaccurate. The actual colors are not even close to the photo. It has beautiful cream, tan and shades of gray. Very neutral. No orange/rust color as shown. If you want orange...don't buy this rug (well...don't buy it anyways More on this to come). When it first arrived, I was absolutely thrilled. The loops were beautiful, color gorgeous and beyond soft. Felt like you were walking on a cloud. Now the bad: This rug is pilling HORRIBLY. Immediately upon walking on it we started to notice the pilling. Because we have a large coffee table in the center, it is extremely obvious to see the flow of traffic, and to see just how horribly this rug is holding up. Everywhere we walk, the loops are pilling, and some are even splitting. Particularly on the ends...some have completely came loose. It looks like I've had it for 20 years, not 7 months. Not only is it pilling, but it is fading dramatically where the flow of traffic is. The beautiful dark grays are fading quickly. It looks like a cheap sweater at this point. Another issue is the amount of shedding. Is it a wool rug? Yes. Should you expect some shedding with a new wool rug? Yes. However, this one literally filled up my Dyson canister on the first vacuum. 7 months later...it's still shedding just as much. Though the shedding does not come from the pilling. Those are stuck on the loops tightly. Last problem is because of the thickness and depth of the loops, it is very difficult to vacuum whatever may fall in-between loops. If you've got time to take a hand vacuum and custom sweep it...great, otherwise beware. Had I written this review upon receiving the rug, I would have given it a 5 star rating, hands down. It started lush and gorgeous. However, it doesn't even deserve the one star I have to give it now. For my first purchase from Overstock, this one was a big, fat, expensive disappointment. I am extremely disappointed and will not be purchasing again from here.Read More
Questions & Answers
Thank you for contacting us moochie930. Since this is a shag, we recommended vacuuming with the beater bar off. Spray extraction, with the use of a wool approved product, can be used to clean this shag rug. This means spraying water deep into the carpet, while simultaneously vacuuming up the used solution to free embedded soil and particles. Professional area rug cleaners are best, too. For spills, blot with a clean white cloth first. Then use lukewarm water with a wool cleaning liquid to remove the stain. Please let us know if you have any further questions.
