Hand-carved Drop-front Secretary Desk

I had a small space available to me and wanted to fill it with a desk where I could pay bills and park my laptop. As I shopped around on the web, and in brick-and-mortar stores, I got the feeling that I was going to have to choose between an expensive desk in the style I preferred, or a cheaper, kid's desk in a style I was most emphatically not thrilled with. When I found this desk, at this price I thought there had to be a drawback, but so far it's been exactly what I wanted. The look is good, it's the right size, and the price was the best I'd found anywhere for this type of desk. It's fantastically easy to put together, requiring only a few minutes to attach the feet. My unit did come with a significant crack at the back, but as it doesn't show and doesn't compromise the function, I didn't feel it was something that needed to be addressed. However I would advise buyers to check their units before destroying the packing. The wooden insert for bills and such is adequate to my needs, and the drawers (two small and one larger) are good and deep, if not particularly large overall. I'd offer one caution: If you tend to push off on something as you stand up, don't do it on this desk. It's likely to tip forward.

My mom offered to buy me a pieceof furniture for a housewarming gift, I chose this because I needed a small desk to organize bill paying. I LOVE this desk. It is a nice warm reddish brown stain that matches my mahogany antique nicely, the carving is beautiful and the lower area is a large file drawer with hangers for hanging files! The table section that pulls down is fairly large: enough for my lap top.This also has a nicely finished back so it can go in your living area and the back will not look cheap and unfinished. It does have a slightly different smell to it but not offensive at all to me, it is kind of like some "antique smell" kind of a light vaguely musty smell. No big deal in my mind. I love this desk!

Every household has its share of records and receipts. We put this in the kitchen, it is just the right size and took care of all that clutter on the counter.

I was trying to decide whether ot not I wanted this desk or the Bill-Payer Desk. I understand that the picture makes it look like it will hold alot IF you don't close the top door. Also the SMELL of the CAMPHOR wood is really bad. On the Bill Payer Desk I got out the Lemon Pledges and sprayed it on and used a paper towel to wipe it off. The carvings took out little pieces of paper towel so I suggest using cloth. The Lemon Pledge or any kind of furniture wax will probably help with the smell by sealing it in. I have places a nice smelling Raspberry Air Freshner container on the top too. The small Size makes me wonder what I will put in it? Yes I would recomment it to a friend but I would let them know what to expect.

I am not normally a fan of elaborate furniture, including anything carved, but this desk is very cute. The carving is nicely done and looks hand crafted. The color is richer and deeper than pictured, which is great. I love the size and there is a surprising amount of space inside. The bottom drawer isn't really mentioned in the blurb with the product photo, but there is a big drawer below the 2 little drawers. All in all I am most satisfied. My husband had it assembed before I got home so I can't comment except to say that he told me it was a piece of cake. Very nice! Thanks, Overstock.
