We previously owned 2 other cotton rope hammocks that had stretcher bars at the top & bottom. HE enjoyed them... I didn't...because the ropes always dug into me. Plus, since they were white rope, over time the mildew and dirt built up, leaving them a dreary green and gray. I liked the idea of no stretcher bars that would allow us to easily hang it, take down, and store on any given day. I also appreciated that I could choose a color other than white. Other buyers had good comments on this type of hammock so I bought it for him. When it arrived he at first looked skeptical about a "sling" hammock but once he hung it and catnapped in it, he became a true convert! I also like that it is made available for sale through Novica, where artisans around the world can sell their quality work. Thanks, Overstock for making this available and at a reasonable price.

I was so excited about this hammock when I first got it. It was silky, pretty, and large. My enthusiasm soon turned into puzzlement while trying out how to lay in it properly. Mayan hammocks don't have spreader bars, so they suggest that you recline in them on a diagonal. I have been in other Mayan hammocks before that made getting comfortable a no-brainer, but that was not the case here. When I finally settled for being moderately comfortable (but not comfortable enough to fall asleep!), I enjoyed my afternoons of cloud watcing for a couple of months before the hammock started to completely disintegrate. The fine silky cord did not hold up well at all, and I live in Los Angeles where it rarely rains. The morning dew combined with hours in the sun baked the threat into crusty crumbly bits. I now need another hammock and definitely will not consider buying this kind again. I am limited in my new search to non-spreader bar hammocks, as I had to buy that kind of stand for this Novica hammock.

I received my swing about a month ago, and absolutely love it. It is so beautiful that I hesitate to cover it with cushions. It looks just like the picture and was very easy to assemble. It is the perfect swing for two people. It will enhance any patio, porch, or garden. Keep in mind that it is a 48" swing and does not fit the traditional stands(60") very well. It does work, but is not completely centered.

Beautiful color, cool, and comfortable. Does not open as shown in picture. hangs in a roll formation, but opens easily for use. Looks and acts like the hammock in "Avatar" which impressed my tween grand daughters and friends. If you pull the sides up and over, it acts as a flying bug deterrent, but still allows breezes thru. This design allows for more positional placements than the traditional "rope" hammocks. We were leery of this type of hammock, but now prefer it. It is a little difficult for 60+ to get out of, but if you walk back a few small steps to get your feet further under you, it is much easier. If you like hammocks, you'll love this one. If you don't like hammocks, you'll like this one!
