I have BIG coffee cups and like more than one in the morning. The stovetop espresso makers were all too little or too expensive. This is perfect because I can make two (or more) big cups and use the coffee/grind I like.
I have several problems with this gas perk. One: I have to watch it carefully so that the coffee doesn't boil over or boil to a point where the coffee is burnt. Two: the handle/band - the screw keeps coming loose and the handle wobbles badly if not tightened. Three: the screw is behind the handle and the handle is so long, that it gets in the way of a normal screwdriver so I have to use a knife to constantly tighten the screw. Very poor workmanship and positioning. I will save this perk as an emergency perk and get an electric one instead.
17 Nov 2009: In my opinion this is a very good buy because it works well as a percolator and can also be used to heat water for other hot beverages. I have used it nearly everyday for a month or more, either to heat water or to percolate coffee, and it works very well. I like it better than other tea kettles (i.e., stainless steel or other metals) because it is easy to see how much water is in it while filling it. I am giving it a durability rating of 4 only because it is made of glass and requires a little extra care. So far I like this item very much.
This perculator makes very good coffee. Good workmanship on product and easy to clean. Only worry that glass could break if you are careless. But worth having as it does make the best coffee in my opinion.NY
