Ginsu Chikara 8-piece Knife Bamboo Block Set

I'm delighted I purchased these knives. They meet all my kitchen needs. I'm able to place the block under my cabinets and take knives in and out without having to move the block. I think the knives are great!

I have been looking for some time for a really good knife set and, after reading the Consumer Reports recommendation, I decided on these. I have acquired a couple of very expensive knives, purchased inidividually, that I don't like nearly as well as these. These knives are very sharp and seem to be well-made, they feel great in your hand and the set provides the basics any cook would need. Steak knives would have been nice, but the set is a FANTASTIC value even without them. I've been watching other retailers' websites and have not found a lower price anywhere, even using a coupon. The only two faults - 1) the site does say "Made in USA" but the box clearly says made in China and I prefer to buy American made whenever possible, although I honestly would have purchased these regardless; and 2) The straight upright block is a bit of an inconvenience as my set sits on my counter underneath my upper cabinet and I can't remove the larger knives without tilting the block outward. This a very small inconveience, though, and it is far outweighed by the quality and value of these knives. These knives are a great buy for the serious cook who doesn't have $500+ to spend on a set - you won't be disappointed! Oh, and one more thing - this is my first purchase from o.co and loved the $2.95 shipping and was amazed at how quickly the merchandise came!

I really cannot comment on the quality of the product since I didn't use it. The immediate problem was that the knife block is not slanted which made it very difficult to remove the knives since I have kitchen cabinets on the wall next to the stovetop where I wanted to keep the knives. The knives looked to be of good quality, and I think I would have enjoyed using the set, but because the block is not slanted, it just didn't work for me.

This knife set was rated as highly as much more expensive sets by Consumer Reports. I purchased it as a Christmas gift and have heard rave reviews from the recipient.
