  • Take your time with assembly

A couple of panels in my kit had the letters reversed which caused mild difficulty early on during assembly. As other reviews have mentioned the documentation is mostly adequate but certainly no more than that. For example, they do not mention or illustrate that the drawer sliders come apart for easier assembly (but they do - look for a plastic catch you can release). I found that while some panels could be assembled either of a couple of ways the holes were drilled such that most panels really only fit together *best* in one way. The reversed letters thing was pretty easily surmounted with just a bit of study - thus the "take your time" admonition. All in all it is a pretty heavily constructed unit. It looks to me like it'll be quite durable. Took me probably eight or nine hours from beginning to end (especially with my 7 year old "helping" ;-).

  • Very nice for the price.

We are happy with the bed. With our slanted ceiling its low enough without the headboard. The storage space is very nice as well. I was a little worried the the size of the boxes and the assembly time. It took two people about 6 hours with some misread directions and general confusion of reading the instructions. But overall we are happy with the product.

  • Love It!

As everyone has already said, it took a significant chunk of time to assemble. But with the tips that everyone gave, and a bit of patience, it's not actually that complex, it's just time consuming. And yes, I think the total weight for the three packages was over 170 lbs. That said, once it was assembled, I loved it. It was just what I wanted: a platform bed that utilized the space below for efficient storage. And it looks great. I wanted to order a second, but they sold out. If the come back, you definitely want to get one.

  • Garret bed, good choice

I bought this bed for my college aged son to replace an existing bed, dresser and chest. I had searched for a captain's bed but I rarely found them larger than twin, which wouldn't meet his needs. I was overjoyed to find the Garret bed on Overstock, though the assembly comments made me apprehensive. I don't recall how long the assembly took, but it was time consuming and challenging. I believe the instructions could've been written more clearly, but we muddled through. The result is a bed that we're pleased with and the value couldn't be beat. I recommend lining the drawers. Initially we didn't and some of my son's clothing became stained while in the drawers.

  • great bed

I bought this and had it shipped to my college-age son. He loves the bed. I came back and ordered the nightstand. Hate I missed the dresser.

  • Good buy for the money saved

Very nice product, gorgeous lines...purchased it for a spare bedroom. Having read other reviews, I knew assembly would be time-consuming ...and it was because of all of the parts. But, I loved that all hardware and parts were labeled and matched to the instructions....definitely a bonus. Certainly, that made the bed easy to assemble. Do follow the comments from another reviewer...glue all of the dowels, not just the ones the instructions tell you to glue. When building the towers that form the drawer structures, the dowels became disconnected when the towers were moved into place. The drawers and slides were easy to assemble. But, I'm having a few issues with one drawer - it doesn't appear to be square, it doesn't slide in completely on one side. Minor tweaking hasn't fixed that yet. I'm still hopeful that I'll get it right soon. But because of the large number of parts to this bed, I'll have to give serious thought to a future breakdown and re-assembly of the bed in the event of a move. I might be able to move it in the large components that I built, but I'm not eager to do that any time soon after taking 6 hours to assemble it. On a positive note, I loved saving about $1200 - the extra money I could have spent on a similar product from a big name store.

I bought this bed with the nightstands. They look very nice and are well constructed. The bed was somewhat difficult to assemble, primarily due to the fact that while all the parts were numbered/lettered, the written instructions were vague. The hardest part was getting the drawers to align, because there were areas of the frame that were held together with dowels that did not hold the frame together very well. When putting the drawers in place the frame was not tight enough, causing the drawers to come off their tracks. I recommend when putting the bed together that you take your time and use wood glue on all areas that are attached with dowels in order to strengthen the frame. But all in all it is a very good product and I am glad that I purchased it.
