Gardena (Made in Germany) pruners do a good job, are colorful, easy to spot on any garden surface and seldom offered in US stores. I've used them for decades; had to buy them in Canada or Europe. Always keep several on hand. Keep them away from my garden helpers. Now, I offer them as token gifts to my real estate clients. Overstock price is excellent. A winner!
Great set of pruners. They feel comfortable in my hand and cut great!
This is probably the best hand pruner I've ever owned. I have arthritis in my hands and yet I'm able to easily cut branches 1/2 inches in diameter. It does work better on live branches of that size than dead ones, but I've been able to manage that too. Now, I'm making every effort to preserve the quality by NOT leaving the pruner lie in the wet dirt . . . and forgetting to bring them in for proper maintenance. Speaking of which, I think the manufacturer should have included maintenance instructions.
They are very comfortable to hold and use. Cut my overgrown roses easily.
I have used these pruners many times (on apple trees, trimming back hedges, cutting lilacs, etc) and I haven't really found anything I couldn't cut with them. The thicker apple branches took a little more power, but I was also cutting branches larger than they recommend, but they still cut through. My only complaint is the locking mechanism sometimes slides to lock/unlock, and sometimes I have to wrestle with it. Only a small problem though. I would recommend these since they have worked great so far on everything I have used them for. The handy rope on it makes it easy to hang from my ladder or off a tree branch while working up in the apple tree.
The blades are nice and the construction seems durable and good, but the handles could use more cushioning. They're fine for short use, but I think your hands would get sore if you were doing a lot of pruning at once, or trying to cut through thicker branches.
There is nothing to rave about here, as a by pass pruner it is better that the cheap anvils. The lever to keep them locked in a closed position quickly stopped working on mine. They cut well, but aren't the best I've had. Price was reasonable. They are perfectly serviceable for the weekend gardener...I'm very busy in the garden & thus hard on tools.
I waited until I had the chance to use them for a while before writing my review and they are GREAT! I've even used them on pretty good size tree branches and they are still cutting just fine!
I don't know how much pruners usually cost so I can't comment on value but these are great shears. They cut thick branches with minimum effort. I think I bought them because I needed a pair and I also needed to hit the $25 for free shipping so even if I paid a couple of dollars more, I got free shipping on the rest of my order. Regardless of why I bought them however, I really like the way I can now speed thru my yard work.
