True, I didn't realize this was just the mattress at first. Then I saw how thick and comfortable this is. I have had many back surgeries, and I still find this mattress as comfortable as my $4k sleep number if I sleep on my back. Plush but firm.
I use this mattress every night. My 235 lb bf, my children (9 and 11), and I all agree the mattress is super comfortable. I actually like the futon mattress better than my old spring mattress. the color is attractive as well, although I use sheets over it.
Great futon. Very firm, although I am fairly used to extremely soft beds. This futon definitely is thick enough so the person sleeping on it won't feel the frame underneath. Smells like insect poison when you first open it up, but about a day later and with a cracked window the odor is totally gone and the mattress puffed right up. Extremely fast shipping! Very pleased. My ONLY issue is there is no Velcro or straps or anything to hold the futon up on the frame. I suppose you might have to keep the little fabric straps that come bound around the futon to somehow finagle it on to the frame.
While not the comfiest mattress in the world, its not bad by any means. Its thick, it fluffs up over time. NOT the best value in the world but you get what you pay for in this world I suppose. Not too much to say, looks like its made with some quality and won't fall apart. It's a mattress. A pretty good one.
I bought this for the Provo Full Mission-style Futon Frame (bought from overstock as well). It fits it well except that I didn't realize this mattress would be so thick that I cannot close the frame with the mattress in it. I have to take it off each time and close it first and then bend and squeeze it in. Although after I do that it does stay in place, its just a bit of a hassle (luckily I don't open and close it too often). I think I would advise buying the 8 inch for this reason, but otherwise it is very comfortable (although firm so if you don't like that don't buy this). I also like the tuffed look of it, but it doesn't seem to be as clean-cut as the image here. It definitely looks like something that needs a futon cover, which would then prevent anyone from seeing the beauty of the tuffed look. I also can't find a white futon cover anywhere, seems like they don't sell actual white like this photo (only off white and neutral). I really wanted a white mattress so I haven't covered it and kind of just left it as is. I didn't have any odor problems, although I did follow the advise of other reviews in leaving it a room with an open window for a few days before use. I am overall pretty happy with the purchase.
I bought this Full sized futon after mine finally was no longer comfortable after 10 years. I sleep on mine and it is not used as a sofa / bed combo. It arrived today and from previous reviews I expected a toxic bomb to come out of the shrink wrap. It has a mild smell, but nothing to be alarmed about . It rose up to almost full expansion and I am sure it will come to full size in 24 hours. (I did give it some good shakes and punches to expedite the process.) The only thing I am disappointed in is the foam center doesn't go all the way to the ends- which would be a drag if you wanted to sit on the end of the bed or use as a sofa. As far as lifting it- I took mine out of the box, left the wrap on and pulled it up 2 flights of stairs. Not bad-I'm a small woman. I placed it on the frame and *then* unwrapped it, so I wouldn't have to struggle with the weight and unwieldy size of it. I think the price is good- but make sure when you order you go back and see if the price goes down-you have 7 days from order date- it did- I contacted Overstock and they store credited me the difference- which I immediately used to purchase a mattress cover. You will need a mattress cover with this if you're using it as a bed. This futon is "tufted" which keeps the batting from shifting-good thing, but the tufts are somewhat deep. As for a cover-this doesn't come with a cover. Buy one and protect your investment. With rotation every 3-4 weeks top to bottom/front to back along with a good vacuuming your futon will last a very long time.
Bought this mattress to replace an old one and really enjoy it. It is a guest bed more than anything so has not received much use yet, but I have taken naps on it. I would recommend a padded mattress cover which I do have on it because it is quite a firm mattress. For the price it was worth it, and I chose this mattress over others because it was highly rated and was very thick which in my opinion means it is more comfortable overall. I didn't notice the odor some talked about, but I put the mattress pad on it right away. I would definitely buy this again.
I have moved in with my parents to help them out. In doing so, I had to give up my king size bed and sleep on their futon. Their mattress was awful! So I purchased this one in hopes that I could sleep comfortably. I ordered the Ivory one. Yeah...It's definitely NOT ivory. It's more like beige canvas. Nothing like the picture showed. OK....so I can live with that. I'm just gonna have sheets on it anyway. I do have to say that it's very thick and I no longer feel the futon bars below me. but it's still a very Firm feeling mattress that I'm having a hard time getting use to. I'm not sure, but maybe this is the best a futon mattress can feel. But I sure am looking forward to having a real bed again.
Nice and soft mattress, though one caution - you will need a pretty sturdy futon frame because it is pretty thick. The inexpensive frame we have does not lift with this mattress so for now we have to leave it open as a bed. Since the mattress is comfortable and thick as advertised I didn't downgrade the rating for this, but it is something to keep in mind since I assumed it would work with any futon. Otherwise, no complaints at all. Hard to find a decent futon mattress that someone can actually sleep on for more than a single night. This one seems to work.
