We really like this mirror. It looks great on the wall and brightens up our living room considerably. It's not totally clear from the picture, but the mirror is actually mounted on top of the frame - it sticks out about 1" from the frame. We were surprised by it, but it turns out to look quite nice. A few criticisms: 1) It is not wood. It's a dense paperboard/particleboard that has a wood veneer painted on it. You wouldn't know the difference until you look up close. 2) The mirror is a bit warped - when you really look at it, you get a slight funhouse mirror effect. 3) The frame is slightly warped as well - the middle bows out from the wall by about 1/8", while the corners sit flush. 4) You must measure VERY specifically when wall mounting this. It has two hooks on either side (both vertical and horizontal orientation) Each has a carrot-style brace ^ that you slide down onto a hook. I mis-measured by about 1/2" and the weight of the mirror nearly tore the hooks from the wall. The good news is that the paperboard material is dense enough where you can easily re-seat the hardware to accommodate your sloppy measuring. All things considered I would buy this mirror again.
I hung this mirror horizontally at eye level in my little entry hallway, and it looks so great there. I'm not sure what the material of the frame is, but it has like a faux finish that gives it a silver, wood-grain look. Very pretty. The wall behind it my entry is light blue, and it looks very nice with that background, but I'm sure it would look great against many different colors.
