can you maually control suction to avoid crushing item?
I purchased the FoodSaver V3835 for the same reason I suspect you are considering buying one--to vacuum seal and then freeze food. It works pretty much as well as I expected it to. I have used the rolls where you make your own size bag--particularly great for large pieces of meat (think of a rack of ribs!) and also the pre-made bags in quart or gallon size. Both work great. I found myself wishing that I had read some tips before the first use--like the fact that it'll do a better job if you pre-freeze wet meats first because all of that liquid will remain in the meat, but that's my fault, as they do publish useful tips in the instructions. I also expected the vacuum to have a bit stronger of a pump on it. It is able to suck out air--no doubt--but a few times after it sealed up a package I found little pockets here and there. It won't do what a commercial unit will do, but honestly, what home appliance does?! I have only had the product for a few weeks but I've packaged about 75 lbs of meat and other foods without a hitch. Assuming that it has a long life, I can highly recommend it....
